Why do you hate the Patriots?
Cause Belichick is a meanie.
Cause of Spygate.
Cause they run up the score.
How about cause they just win big, and win consistently.
Why did 30% of the people on the MLB homepage vote that they hate both the Yankees and Red Sox?
Well, as far as the Red Sox, they have a nice guy coach, there was no "cheating", and they do not run up the score.
Aside from the salary cap issues (and you cannot tell me that those 30% give a shiz about that,) people just HATE whoever is on top.
It's the ugly side of human nature. Some people whom just are not as good as others, or their stuff is not as good as others resort to being catty and pouty to those who have things.
To all the Patriots, Red Sox (and yes, even Yankees haters that have nothing to do with the Red Sox, Yankees rivalry,)
You should be ashamed of yourselves right down to the bone!

Let's clarify things..
Nobody hates the Yankees or Red Sox.
Everyone hates their fans that have been created since the start of this 1999-present "rivalry".
ESPN has created this obnoxious fraudulent fan-base thanks to acknowledging only 2 teams.
There are too many fans that just came out of nowhere in the current Espn era.
You can go to any stadium in America and see 10,000 red sox hats at the games....and many of them couldn't point to boston on the map...or tell you what state Boston is in...
The Red Sox and Yankees and Yankees were never rivals for 100 years. In fact up until about the late 1990's, most people on the street (ther than true-blue fans of the teams) had no knowledge of this life-long hatred.
For decade after decade, the Red Sox and Yankees were never good at the same time.
I always grew up in a household that had the Dodgers as the Yankees 100 year rivalry.
I don't hate on real-life Yankees/Sox fans.
But I cannot stand seeing some drunken idiot who grew up in Tulsa, OK suddenly a lifelong loudmouth Red Sox cap wearing D-bag who hates the Yankees.

First of all, the Patriots will only be remembered for the game they lost, which just happens to be the Super Bowl.
Secondly, how do you know the Red Sox or any team or participant does not cheat? In baseball and sports in general, the attitude is there that unless you get caught (like Marion Jones) it is NOT cheating. Getting caught is the result of presenting evidence that is undisputable too.

I hate the Pats because of their fans. The fans act as if the Pats win the SB every year. News flash they don't. I hate both teams because of bias. You would not see a poll of which team Detroit or Cleveland. People act as if they are the only two teams people could possibly be a fan of. This is especially true in the Northeast.

L-Dog,
BUT ... if the Tigers / Lions or the Browns / Indians combined for seven championships and conference championships over the last 7 years, you'd better believe that you would hear their fans spewing their mouths.
I cannot speak for the rest of the Boston sports fans, but I hate the fact that there is no salary cap in baseball. Without it, you get the varsity team beating up on the little leaguers.
At least football has a level playing field.
Why can nobody admit that the Patriots have a phenominal coaching staff, front office and quarterback? People want to believe that they "cheated" and that's the only reason for their success.
For the record, the media coined this "cheated" phrase and the sheep sports fans that learn everything they know from the media, latched on to it.
Nobody could explain 16-0 without videotape. The only thing I heard is that the Patriots lost the SuperBowl because they did not have illegal tape to look at during halftime!
What a joke.

No one hates the Pats because they are good. My team beat yours in the Super Bowl and no one hates them. Belichick is a jerk. Kraft is a jerk. Brady is a jerk. Moss is a jerk. You haven't won since 2004* and your titles are tainted from cheating. Maybe the NFL will finally listen to Matt Walsh. You Patriot fans have a deluded sense of reality. No one spends time hating teams that haven't won in four years. You're hated because the organization, and its fans are totally classless period.

Ugly side of Human Nature? Ashamed down to the Bone?
Not at all - in fact, I think the opposite is true. It's a positive part of human nature that we tend to root for the underdog, for the little guy. For the team that gets it done against the odds. And the natural corollary to that is that the big teams are going to get little love.
And in US sport, the most uneven playing surface is the MLB. Without a salary cap, the resources of the Yankees and Red Sox are vast compared to everyone else. It logically follows that they win a bunch of games and championships as a result. So when, as a neutral, you're presented with a situation where a smaller market team with less resources - the Rockies of last season being a prime example - comes up against one of the big boys, it's a natural, and positive reaction for you to support the underdog.
Watch the Tigers - for the moment, people are excited about the stacked line-up they've put together with their big spending. But if they start to dominate for a couple of years, people will turn against them too.
I agree with what you said - I find very little about the Red Sox to dislike. Francona is likeable enough, Manny is hilarious, Beckett, Big Pappy, Dice-K...they're a generally likeable bunch of guys (Schilling apart). Doesn't stop the fact that every time I see them play this year, save possibly the Yankees games, I'll be wanting them to lose.
Patriots are slightly different - they've become the dominant franchise because they're brilliantly managed rather than because they've got more cash than the competition. And they have the added Belichick factor - and let's be honest, he is a complete knobjockey. But even if he were the most likeable, modest coach in the world - like, say, Tony Dungy - the majority of people would still have been cheering the Giants on in the Superbowl because we like to see the underdog come through. It makes a better story, and it gives hope to the majority who support crummy teams that it could happen to them.
Boston teams are having a great run at the moment. Therefore they're going to be generally unpopular. It's how it works - deal with it!

Tonesta. That was a really good post and I totally agree with you except for Manny being hilarious. He's part of what's wrong with sports today, bad attitude, lax effort, really doesn't care about anyone but himself. Only thing that amuses me is although the Patriots had a good run they are not on top, so how could it be that everyone hates them because of that. You're totally right Belichick is the biggest knobjockey in management in the entire sports world.
