I don't know if you guys watched the game but Babbitt played decent minutes and was rather quiet.  He played solid but did absolutely nothing of note.  I watched the game from halfway through the first half all the way until the end and the commentators never even said his name.

I didn't know it was possible to be that quiet.

This was a typical all-star game at any level. This game favored guards due to the up and down (transition style) game. Babbitt is a half-court player but he got up and down the court quickly for his size. Also, Brandon Jennings PG (Arizona) was trying to break Jasque Vaughn's assist record so he was hot doggin' it and forgetting the fundamentals of basketball. He wasn't the only one, everybody out there was playing without the fundamentals except for Babbitt and maybe two other players (mostly big men). Babbitt made a lot of screens and conducted several pick an rolls but the guards were out for themselves. Like I said....typical all star game!

They announcers did make a couple of comments of how Babbitt and JaVale McGee will make an excellent combination.

The commentators did speak highly of Babbitt when he first came into the game.  As Wac-Fan pointed out, they mentioned that he and McGee will make a great combination.  They also mentioned that he will fit well with Fox's style of play.

Here is an article on RGJ.com - http://news.rgj.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080327/PREPSPORTS/803270362/

That was the first time I have seen Babbitt play.  No doubt about it, he has a great first step to the hoop.  The commentators even pointed that out - he is deceptively quick.  He can certainly take it strong to the basket.  He didn't get an opportunity to display his outside shooting though, but I heard that he was the runner-up in the 3-point contest the day before.  That is impressive for a big man.

As far as defense, I thought he looked a little outsized.  He didn't seem to match up well defending and rebounding.  But, I have to take it for what it's worth: he was matched up against the best and most athletic players in the country AND the officials were just letting them play without calling any fouls - even if they went over his back to grab a board.

Defending can be coached.  He appears to already have the offensive tools.  So, I am really looking foward to seeing him play next year (and hopefully the three years following).

like i said... I didn't see the beginning of the game so I didn't know if they mentioned him earlier....

That article was pretty good.  All the talk sounds like McGee is staying for next year.  He would be a fool to go to the NBA now.

JaVale!!!

McGee will test the waters. That's SOP anymore if you are a future NBA prospect. We all have to sweat out the process just like with Snyder, Nick, Sessions and Kemp before him. Gut feeling is that he will be back. Uno mas Javale!

Bring on the Babbitt era! To have an All-American coming in to an already talented group has to give you shivers. When's the first tip?

Babbitt, although the stat sheet wasn't there, impressed me a big deal. He seems extremely composed and didn't take idiotic shots, like most of the players in the game. He looked fundamentaly sound by setting screens and passing the ball well. When he did drive to the basket he seemed to have a rather nice first step, which will give the WAC bigmen nightmares when they have to guard him. Put that together with a "sometimes" dominant McGee and our elusive guards, Nevada will be a scary good team year. Beating NC in Reno isn't a far-fetched dream anymore. Let's go PACK!

Ditto WAC_FAN. Typical All-Star game. He was wide open for a lot of shots, he just didn't get the rock. Luke will be just fine here in Reno.

Also from ESPN,

At halftime, Luke Babbitt of Galena (Reno, Nev.) was presented the Naismith Sportsmanship Award. The award is given annually to the player who exhibits the best sportsmanship during the week of the game and is voted on by the players and coaches. Babbitt, a 6-8 forward who signed with Nevada, scored four points and brought down two rebounds.

Glad to see the RGJ mention that. Oh how I loathe that terrible terrible paper.

Cheers!
