Huggins is a tough guy, and he has trained tough guys. His guys don't back down, and they play strong at every position. This has been a hallmark of the big east for over twenty years. Jim Calhoun, both John Thompsons, Jim Boeheim, Jay Wright and Rick Pitino (at Providence and Louisville) all have a history of playing tough and playing strong. This is an attribute which distinguishes the conference from the ACC (finesse and sharpshooting), or the Pac-10 (speed). There are some parallels with the Big 12, where teams like KSU, Texas A&M, Kansas and Oklahoma all play pretty tough. No coach is perfect, and Huggins doesn't try to be. But he's loyal, and stays true to himself and his style, and that should be respected, because he has had a lot of success with it.
He has stayed with his beliefs and gameplan, but has been flexable enough allow the players to retain some of Beilien's strategy, which is why they have been so successful.
It has been a succesful year. And this is supposed to be a transition year. They have done far better than I expected. I am very proud of them and wish them well tonight against Xavier. Let's Go Mountaineers!
You could say that loyalty stuff about Kansas State but look how long he stayed at Cincy which wasn't exactly everyones idea of the creme job. Since he's left that school hasn't had success in basketball. Kansas State gave him a chance to get back in and I believe he would have stayed there for years if it hadn't been for West Virginia which is where he really wanted to be. To me his loyalty would go down if he left West Virginia. We all change jobs at some point for better opportunities, better commutes, or numerous reasons. I don't believe he lied to the kids at Kansas St or the fans it just so happens that the West Virginia job opened and it's where he really wanted to be. Unlike Rodriguez, I don't see him leaving until he's asked too which hopefully will be many years from now. I give him a pass on Kansas St.
I agree the K St job has no bearing on his loyalty. I have always said this guy is a winner. He can get the players and that is a fact. He left K St to coach the university he played for and the state he grew up in. 99% of americans would do that. WVU is on a hot streak and it wouldn't surprise me to see them in the final 4. Good luck Huggs.
I agree the K St job has no bearing on his loyalty.
How can anyone actually belive that bolting on a school (job, team etc) after only one year has no bearing on his loyalty. He took his dream job when it became available (very good reason) which is the epitomy of selfishness. A LOYAL person sticks to his obligations DESPITE the circumstances. I don't blame him, I would have done the same thing, but it wasn't a loyal action. So many people PRETEND to be loyal, moral, forgiving etc when in reality we just aren't. Keep trying to be a better human but stop deluding yourself - we are all selfish at the core - you need neither defend nor condem it.
I do not like to look at coach Huggins. I do not appreciate coaches (or athletes) who preen, scowl, complain or exhibit their superiority where hard work and sportmanship would be so much to my preference. Look at Curry and Alexander (to name two) athletes and see the joy and toughness without the edge. Choose you role models with care. Help your classmates, parents and children learn some values.

I do. I appreciate coaches like Huggins, and Bobby Knight, guys who pour all of their passion and personalities into the game, because after all it is a game, and these guys make it fun. For the fans anyway!
