Should the Leafs resign Sundin for another year.  I feel that they should not resign Sundin if he is truly asking for seven million as the Hotstove analysts suggest.  They could sign two or three good players for that price.  However, if it is a contract under five million, let him play another year in leafland. Why not bomb next year and have a chance to draft Tavares.

They should ask Sundin to sign for less (maybe 2 - 3 million) to help rebuild Toronto. They could still play this superstar and have future Stars able to sign with Toronto.

Also, If you want to win in the short future then keep Sundin. If you want to win in the long future then don't sign Sundin

It seems to me that there is very little benefit to not signing Sundin. If the youth movement is truly underway in Toronto, then it makes very little sense to not sign him.

Every young team fails, regardless of the talent of the youngsters if they do not have veteran leadership to guide them. In my opinion this applies to both on and off ice. I dont mean plug in some older 4th liner. To truly develop, the talented youngsters need to have a front line NHLer to lead them. Sundin perfectly fits this bill. The guy is a star with a ton of class.

Look what happened to Chicago and Washington this year. I think both these teams had the greatest young talent, yet they had very little success. If course these teams will end up being fantastic if they can hold on to all these youngsters, but they will take much longer to develop without hte likes of a sundin to guide them.

The wings are a prime example of building youth with strong veteran leadership.
