Coach K Is A Terrible Recruiter

Duke 2005: 2 5-star, 3 4-star

UNC 2005: 1 5-star, 3 4-star

Duke 2006: 3 5-star, 1 4-star

UNC 2006: 3 5-star, 3 4-star

Duke 2007: 1 5-star, 2 4-star

UNC 2007: Nobody

Yeah Coach K's a terrible recruiter.  Three straight top 10 classes plus another top 25 in 2008.  Not many other coaches including Roy Williams can say that.

First off, I'm a UCLA fan but being a student of the game I am compelled to watch the Duke program every year. I like to keep tabs on all the big name programs and there's a reason I watch yours.

Coach K knows how to coach. Few schools land the best recruiting classes every year but many schools do very well with what they have. Coach K consistently coaches his teams into top ten because he's a great coach and teacher.

Every program has it's down periods. Believe me, as a Bruing fan I've waited many years to see my team return to pseudo prominence. We hang nothing but National Championship banners at Pauley Pavilion

Im a Tarheel, but i really cant believe this thread????  Coach K is no where close to being a terrible recruiter.. He cant brain wash kids into coming. Duke pretty much recruits the same kids Carolina do, but its ultimately up to the kid and his parents to make a decision on where they want to be. Anybody can get knocked out of a tournament at any time and just because you lose doesnt meant you're a bad team or your coach is losing it or he cant recruit. For you guys to have as many MCDonalds All Americans on your team, proves that he can recruit. Its just a few down years and you've had them before, bounced back and been just fine.. The same thing is going to happen and then everyone will be back to saying Coach K is the greatest ever and rightfully so. You can talk about academics all you want, but private schools can accept anybody they want to. I could see if Duke was the only school in the nation trying to get better while everyone else stayed the same, then you would have a valid point, but every team in the nation is trying to get better at the same time and that just means more competition.. Also, McDonalds A A's arent the best players in the nation. They may be in ranking because of various media outlets, but there are hundreds of players just as good and sometimes better when coached right.  I say, stop worrying about your future, cause its going to be solid once again.. Give it time.. I know its hard because we get so spoiled by our top tier programs, but believe me when i say "It will be ok."

You must be using Rivals.com djo81491.  I used Scout.com and those are there rankings.  They had Boykin as a 4-star in 2005, Scheyer as five star in 2006, and Zoubek as a 4-star in 2006.  You should get your facts correct about Kris Humphries.  If I recall, Kris Humphries was offered a scholarship by Duke, committed to Duke, signed a letter of intent of with Duke, and then decommited from Duke to sign with Minnesota later.

i love a fan who knows the 411 !  your average fan (including all unc fans) believe that

duke lives by the same (academic) standards as all the other acc schools and that they

are the only acc school that has suffered due to early departures.
