She ended the biggest rivalry in college basketball. I know Gene Aurimema isn't the nicest guy. He is a thorn in her side. I just think that was bad for women's college basketball. There are a lot of casual fans who get pumped when they watch those two teams play. He might have been dipping in her pool of recruits but she still won the title last year. How does she know that Gene cheated to get his recruits. I watched inside the lines and thats why she called off the rivalry. Why would it stop him from recruiting big time and taking her recruits away. It would be like cancelling red sox- yankees series because of roid use.

I don't have a problem with what Pat did. Why subject yourself to an idiot like Geno. Besides why is he coaching women. Something strange about men coaching women, Freud would have a field day with this guy! What a joke! No way I would let my child play for UConn. Not when you have class acts like Pat, Tara at Stanford and Stringer at Rutgers. Geno acts like Don King, self promoting and a big loud mouth. Why not do your talking on the court with class. He started all this talking to bring exposure to UConn. I won't say he hasn't been successful, but do it with class. You don't see coack K and Coach Williams trashing each other and that is one bitter rivalry.
Every player to play for Pat has graduated and every player to play at Tennessee has been to a Final Four, been in every tournament and made every Sweet 16. Pat has made the women's game what it is and if she decides to no longer entertain an idiot like Geno then she has earned the right. I would venture to say, had Geno been classy I highly doubt this series would have ended. And no matter how you slice it UConn cheated, however slight you determine it to be. They didn't know it was a violation! Yeah right. They knew and didn't care, anything to win, hey Geno.

Very, very, very well said, Rocky Top. And to title this thread to suggest Pat has 'ruined' her legacy!?!?.....PLEASE!!! Standing up for yourself in no means should be considered to ruin a legacy. This woman is the best thing to happen to basketball. Period. Mens or Womens. No one should have to put up with the antics of a classless bully in any profession. Pat has done more for the women's game than anyone, a real pioneer of the game, so for her to make such a decision that would potentially set the women's game back, you know her decision had to be made and she had more than a legitimate reason. To answer your question, iceman, about how she knows UCONN cheated to land Moore is b/c the SEC, at Tennessee's request, made the NCAA investigate the possible violations by UCONN during Moore's recruiting. Once they got caught they decided it might be a good idea to go ahead and self report the violation. AFTER they got caught! What an honest and classy guy Geno is. The cancellation also stems from a really intelligent and mature comments by Geno that Moore and other recruits didn't need to come play at Tennessee b/c it was a total lesbian environment and they didn't need to get involved with that. What a real class act! Granted Holly is a lesbian, but really, what program doesn't have lesbians in it? And WHO CARES!!??!? Your looking for a National Championship, not a girlfriend! Yeah Geno is a good coach, but how good are you really if you have to cheat for whatever you get? I'll take 7 Championships in good-faith then even 1 I had to cheat to get. DOWN WITH UCONN!!!!!!!!

Pat Summit fans, I am hoping you find a way to beat LSU (because we already beat them, Stanford, North Carolina, Rutgers (2) and a bunch of other challengers). UConn is a better program. Are you saying that Pat is crying because UConn arranged a trip to ESPN's studios? A trip that could have been arranged by anyone? A trip that has been reviewed by the NCAA's already and dealt with?
Pat is crying because Tennessee is "what used to be" while UConn is "what is." Tell her to put on her Easy Spirits and go quietly into that good night. (and give her credit, she is one of the few people in Tennessee that even wears shoes.
UConn can, and does.

In reading all of these posts I had to reply. There is nothing in this world that could ruin Summit's legacy. She is a living legend in the game of basketball and shouldn't be treated any less. Who cares if Tennessee plays UConn in the regular season? I don't. UConn has been nothing but boring to watch this season. There is much more going on in the game today than these two teams competing against each other. Coming from a coach of 8 years, it is vital to your program to change up the season schedule every few years. It brings new competition and challenges to your players which is most important. Look at what we have now...the possibility of a Tennessee vs. UConn final (although I want Standford to win).
Just to say something to another post...people in Tennessee wear shoes. Is there ever going to be a time where the country views the south in a different light instead of assuming we are toothless, shoeless people?

THANK YOU YOUBETCHA!!! It's just close minded people that feel bad about themselves as it is that they need to put people in the south down to make them feel better. They really have NO idea how great life is down here in the beautiful south! I like how that UCONN fan thinks UCONN is the team of 'now'. REALLY? That news must not have made it down here to the south! That never even crossed my mine. I ask you, how can a coach that is about to reach 1,000 career wins, just passed 100 tourney wins, made every sweet 16 ever held, making their 18th final four, the first to win 3 consecutive championships, and just won their 7th, SEVENTH (and hopefully 8th) national championship be considered the team of the 'past' when this so called team of 'now' hasnt won a championship since 2004. Not even a Final Four in 4 years. That really sounds like the team of 'now'. Granted they are the favorite to win this year, and I doubt anyone can stop them, but to make that kind of statement is irrational, moreover IGNORANT.

Better program? You must be kidding! Not even close. Nice for you to make it back to the Final Four, maybe we can draw you a map! Ohhh I forgot who is the National Champion right now? Hmmmm... ohh Tennessee!
Lets review:
Final Fours: UT:18, UConn:9, Titles: UT:7, UConn:5, Sweet 16: UT: All of them, UConn: who cares, Class: UT: Loaded, UConn: NONE!
Talk to me in a decade when, which I highly doubt, you may have closed the gap.
Go Vols!

No, people rip on the south because the south is stubbornly ignorant. After northern states such as Connecticut settle the argument about states rights and slavery, and did a decent job of reconstruction and reunification, the south still has to fly a confederate flag in our face. 150 years after getting beaten to a pulp, the south still flies that flag. Until the south shows some dignity, it will be pummeled with undignified toothless/shoeless jokes. As for UConn vs. Tennessee...well the argument is of paramount importance in Tennessee. The Vols are your entire world. That hillbilly college defines the class structure of Tennessee. You either went there and are a proud Vol, or else you are 2nd class. Connecticut has a bit more going for it. As for UT vs UC? If you are lucky enough to beat LSU, we'll see if you can hang around a 20 point deficit to UConn. UConn is the team of NOW. The news will get to you as fast as the Tennessee male mule can deliver it. Yeee Hawwww. "The South shall wear shoes again!!!"
