Looks like Montgomery got the nod at Cal. I have a feeling that Fox told em' thanks but no thanks. Montgomery went to the NBA after 16 seasons with Stanford, and like most coaches, went right back to the college ranks.

Finally I can breathe easier!

Yeah ....Hooray.  Know of any young talented 7 footers up for grabs now?  I just can't get over thinking Nevada could have been a final 4 team next year with Babbit, McGee, and Armon Johnson.  Makes me sick.  Gotta think outside the box and maybe recruit out of country?  I used to play Tennis for Nevada and there were quite a few internationals on that team.

Yes, that is a great relief Skilz. I'm not surprised at all by Cal's decision. Montgomery was great at Stanford and he's a bay area guy. It was a curious move for him going to G-state in the first place. And of course he bombed big time.

I think Fox will get a big time gig eventually but his work isn't complete at Nevada. Keep in mind he's not even 40 yet. Now hopefully no one else gets fired any time soon so our Coach can concentrate on finding a tree to fill the middle next season.

I have a couple responses:

1) I would think it would be more rewarding and a greater accomplishment to turn Nevada into a "big time gig" than to go to another school that is already "big time."

2) Maybe coach Fox has a vision that goes beyond the "big time" mentality. To my way of thinking what he is doing at Nevada is already "big time." He's trying to help young men become more mature men, which is the original purpose behind men's college sports anyways.

So far, on scout.com the biggest prospect we're looking at is 6'9''. That frightens me.

Hey Noahndy, I hear you. In no way was I trying to dog on Nevada. Look at Gonzaga, they are "big time' in hoops, right? Maybe my choice of wording was poor.

But the bottom line is Nevada is pretty much maxed out for the salary they will give to Fox or anyone else. He will eventually go to a "bigger" school that can offer him up at least two times the salary that we can. That's just the reality of it. Fox loves coaching here and I really don't think it's all about the money with him. But there will be a time when he gets an offer he can't refuse at a school and location that is desirable to him and his family.

I, whole-heartedly, agree with you Howlzonies. There will come a point in time where Fox will get the offer "he can not and should not refuse". It's just a realists point of a view and something, as Nevada fans, we'll have to live with. Only chance things might be different, is if we get some big time Boosters step up and be willing to dish out the green. And I just don't see that happening, atleast any time soon. I pray sooner than later. Lets keep our heads up tho. We have our coach coming back with an excellent group of players on our team currently, and a terrific recruiting class coming in. Keep in mind we have 2 more scholarships to give and Fox / Carter are already out looking to hand them out. Guys, we have more than enough reasons to hold our heads high.

Go PACK!
