Well, he has made his decision to enter the draft and we will have to live with it even if we don't like it. Marreese Speights did well for the Gators and brought a post presence to this team. Now that he is gone, I believe it will be big shoes to fill.

He isn't gone as yet, and I would hope that he will learn from his predecessors Walsh & Roberson, who are nowhere to be found.  He will be drafted as a late 2nd rounder, perhaps.  He is by no means ready for the competition in the NBA. He stands to improve his position by staying one more year and impressing the scouts with his play in an NCAA tournament. I will be surprised if he remains in the draft.

like was said before, MS is just testing the NBA waters.  He is not commited in any way.  He can pull his name out of the hat any time he wants up to the June 16th deadline.  I kind of see the same thing happening that happened when Cornelious Ingram tested the waters for the NFL draft.

On the other hand, Rivals is reporting that on several NBA mock drafts they have Speights as a Mid FIRST rounder.  I personally don't see how that is possible.  I don't think there is any way that he is ready to make that jump up to the big leagues.  As a center / power forward if you can't dominate the paint in college how do you expect to dominate the paint in the NBA? I just can't see this happening.  Hopefully he is just doing this for experience so he will know what to expect when he does enter the draft after next year.

We will still have some great young big men coming in next season.  Both ranked at #3 in the nation at their positions (center and power forward). But like I said, they will be very young and it would be really nice to have a guy like Speights for them to practice with and learn from.

yeah you guys got it right - premature at best both for him and for a Gator fan to worry about it. I really don't see him going but if he does - that will just leave more room for the TERROR TRIO Billy D has coming in to play with Lucas, Calathes & Hodge in 08-09:
Kadji
Vargas &
Allan Chaney
I think as they are top talents, like Calathes, these guys will be immediate impact players and start contributing to Gator Ws. Speights gone also opens a hole for a bulked up (I hope) Chandler Parsons to start seeing more ball-time. Imagine the size we might start with in the paint next year: 6-10 Vargas, 6-9+ Kadji (who can sky like a 7fter) + 6-8 Chaney (also a hi Vertical), 6-9 parsons, 6-6 Calathes and one of the little guys in th Backcourt '-)
It will be interesting to see what the off-season practises produce as Erving Walker could definitely take Hodge off the floor if he is a fast learner.

It's gonna be a great season - with or without Marreese Speights.

What a huge mistake it would be for him to leave. Yes it would hurt the team but it will hurt his future even more. He clearly is not ready for the NBA. If you can't bring your A Game for 30 or so games a season what chance do you have in an 81 game season.

He isn't going to make it so I really hope Rivals is right and he gets a first round contract cause that's the only money he will ever see.

He might not leave yet because he hasn't got an agent. If he doesn't like his draft pick he can come back to the gators and still play for us. Its a good thing because he might not like his pick. It really sucks for the team that picks him because he loses his draft pick. I don't think he will like his draft pick because their are so many great players this year in college basketball. He isn't incredible so he won't leave.

I think even if he becomes drafted in the second round Speights will go in the draft because he will be suprised that he actually got drafted. The reason he did this is because he wanted more playing time.
