Tiger Woods.

But the rest of Elling's tale of young golfers' putting woes was very informative. Good writing. Good to see that at least one CBS Sportsline columnist is willing to do research instead of just spouting opinion.

two more words for you: they stink!

garcia had a 5 footer to win the british open and he choked! tiger couldn't win the tourney. it was all garcia's and he blew it. tiger can't get all the blame for these guys inability to win a major or consistently from week to week. they are not that good. tiger takes off a ton and some of these guys still don't win! phil has been out of most tourney's he's been in this year. is that tiger's fault ? no.

In Palmer and Nicklaus day, you had to win to make a living, basically.  Hence Arnie's attacks on the pin.

Today, if you can make few top tens, you are a millionaire, and thus young guys never really pressure Woods. - they're happy to take their 100 grand and move on

Excellent article, and as you stated well researched for a change.  Nice work by all.

Good points in the article.  I have coached high school golf and there is too much emphasis on the "long ball" in the youth.  Everybody wants to hit the driver, which may be used 14 times in a round.  They end up using the putter at least 36 times a round when they can't make any 1 putts or get a chip close to the hole.
