Vandy Makes Impression on Tinsley:
There were some travel irregularities and little sleep was to be had. But once he arrived at his destination, Brad Tinsley forgot about all that during his official visit to Vanderbilt this past weekend. The 6-foot-3, 190-pound guard made the trip to Nashville with his family, hoping to be impressed by the SEC school -- and despite all the headaches getting there, that's exactly what happened.
"The visit was sweet. It was a lot of fun," Tinsley said. "I got to play with the guys and I ate a lot, which was kind of crazy as I hadn't eaten that much in a long time. I hung out with all the guys, who were all really nice, and I liked the whole atmosphere down there."
Tinsley didn't have a specific host while he was on his visit but spent a lot of time with freshman center Andrew Ogilvy and some of the other players. Tinsley said felt a good bond with them. "It's a pretty good academic school, so everyone there is all down to earth and nobody is arrogant," Tinsley said. "And the coaching staff was really great and did a great job of taking care of us on our visit."
In addition to touring the facilities and campus, Tinsley got a special opportunity to do something a little different his final day in Nashville. "On Sunday, Coach Stallings' son -- who is a big-time baseball player, a catcher at North Carolina -- we set aside some to go hit some baseballs," Tinsley said. "Coach Stallings was actually there throwing us some balls. It was a lot of fun."
From a basketball perspective, Tinsley might have been tired physically when he played with the Commodore players, but he liked what he saw. "It was great, (Jermaine Beal) and I were on the same team and we switched between the one and the two, which is what it would be like if I went there," Tinsley said. "They've got some big guys like A.J. (Ogilvy) and a redshirt freshman from Nigeria (Festus Ezeli) who is going to be good, and they've got a lot of key role players that just get the job done. Their two incoming freshman are going to be pretty good, too."
Overall, Vanderbilt laid out the red carpet for Tinsley and a good impression was definitely made. Now it appears Tinsley's decision could come sooner rather than later. "It was a great experience for everyone," Tinsley said. "Now I have a home visit with Arizona State and then another official with Wake Forest, and then hopefully a decision. After I get back (from that visit) we'll just evaluate, pray, and hopefully decide."
It'd be great for the program to get Brad for the next few years. Check out this highlight video on youtube if you haven't seen this kid play yet:
