Keno Davis has left Drake for a bigger paycheck but he will never coach a better school than Drake! Ok, maybe he will. I'm just sad to see Coach Davis go. He had such a great year and was on his way to building a powerhouse in the MVC. Now will Drake return to a subpar team for another 37 years? I hope not!

It definitely came as a huge surprise to me.  Drake was definitely the house that Davis (Keno & Dr Tom) built.  I hope people realize that anybody who gets offered a coaching position at 4x their current salary in a major conference, they too would have left.  Nobody should be screaming betrayal.  He took Drake to their highest point in decades, and they shouldn't have that hard of a time finding a decent replacement (probably their current assistant)...although if it was me, this would be the time they could actually go after an up and coming assistant from a major school.

At least now Iowa will once again be the Hawkeye state...

I completely agree.  I was really disappointed and surprised to see Keno leave, but if I were offered a job that quadrupled my salary, I don't know how I could say no.  The part that surprised me the most was that he got such a big offer already.  Obviously he did a great job in winning coach of the year, but I guess I expected the big programs to wait a year or two for him to prove it wasn't a fluke before they threw the big bucks at him.  I do think that he could have gotten a bigger offer at a better program if he had a couple more successful years at Drake, but props to the A.D. at Providence for taking a chance on him right away.

This is why the Valley keeps earning the reputation as a "mid-major". Guys come here and use it as a stepping stone to something better. Or so they think. Is it a better offer at 4X the salary if they fall on their face and get canned?

I don't know the details. Did Drake make a counter-offer?

A look at some of the others who used the MVC as a prop to something else:
Nolan Richardson (to Arkansas)
Kevin Stallings (to Vanderbilt)
Matt Painter (to Purdue)
Bruce Weber (to Illinois)

I like what I see from our coach (Jankovich) at ISU, but I'm really afraid that if he has another good year and makes the NCAA playoffs next year, he'll be the next to hit the road.
