Taylor King will officially transfer to Villanova at the beginning of next year. I liked the kid and it looked like he had good relationships with everyone on the team, so I'm surprised he transfered. But unless you're a top 10 recruit, you can't expect to come to a 1st-class program like Duke, and expect to start.

I agree. Many people were using this as anti-Duke ammunition saying that its a sign that Duke can't keep a recruit. But I know this guy left simply because he did'nt get any minutes. (Not counting a couple high scoring games). He's good enough to start somewhere else (Like Vill) so thats what he's doing.
I think he realized that with willams coming to Duke his playing time would not increase.

I really do hate saying this about him, but he is selfish. I like the kid because of his shooting ability but he wasnt a passer.
When he would get the ball he would shoot the ball first. He hardly every would pass the ball. I think that was a major reason why he didnt get many minutes.
His philosophy is, Shoot first and shoot some more.

In King's defense, he did average 25ppg in high school, but that's still no excuse to leave a storied program like Duke. He never proved himself out there, just chucking up ill-advised 3-pointer after 3-pointer. Just goes to show that Duke isn't about that, it's about fundamentals and I hope that for Taylor's sake, he can find that at Villanova.

I don't think Villanova is really any better of a fit for Taylor King than Duke was. Sure he'll get more minutes there, but is there any offense better suited for King than Duke's. He was given the freedom to shoot whenever he was open, whether it was a good or bad shot. I don't think he'll be able to do that at Villanova. Anyway, under Jay Wright's system, guards have thrived at Villanova, not forwards such as King. Guys like Randy Foye, Allan Ray, Kyle Lowry, and now Scottie Reynolds have had success at Villanova as guards. Hopefully Taylor King can make a his own niche at Villanova and live up to his potential.

Your'e dead on Duke Fan,
I didn't really mean that he would be a better fit, just that he'll get some minutes. I too think that King could have found a role at Duke, its just that he seemed unwilling to do anything but stand there like a statue. His defense was atrocious too.

If Taylor King could play inside and out, I'd be sad, but the truth of the matter is that he's not a good enough rebounder at 6-7. Once the kid's jumper went out, he was not much of a factor (I know that the kid can shoot, but some of his shots were absolute cannons). But, the most important thing is that Taylor King isn't transferring to an ACC school...he's the kind of kid who will stay around for 4 years and should develop into something extra by senior year. I'm sure Jay Wright is happy to have a new project though.

He was FAR too slow for Duke's offense as well. I was upset when he left, but not beat up about it. When McRoberts announced he was leaving I was angry, but mostly because I knew how good we could be with him here this past year. With or without King, we'll be fine.
He was a chucker, there wasn't a spot on the floor that didn't look ideal for 3point shot. It killed us in many cases too...
Much like Zoubek, he was put in primarily for someone to get a breather or because someone got in foul trouble and would only end up hurting us by throwing threes at the basket unsuccessfully (with exception to a couple of good games).
He was far too slow, and far to ineffective for the duke style offense, plain and simple

King shooting was not being selfish at all. He was doing what Coach K told him to do. Coach K knew that he had unlimited range, and wanted him to shoot basically every time he touched it. He got benched because he wasnt converting the shots, not because he was shooting them
