HOUSTON  --  Former St. John's forward Qa'rraan Calhoun told FOX 26 Sports he signed Wednesday to play college basketball at the University of Houston.

Originally from Raritan High School in Hazelt, New Jersey, Calhoun also played at a prep school, Bridgeton Academy in Maine, before signing with St. John's.

Calhoun played in all 31 of St. John's games his freshman year (2006-2007), starting ten times. He averaged 5.9 points and 4.0 rebounds a game. Following that season he transferred to Barton County Community College in Kansas.

During the 2007-2008 season Calhoun averaged 16.8 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 2 blocked shots a game for Barton County.

The 6-8, 230 pound forward said he chose Houston over Kentucky, Illinois, N.C. State, Alabama, and Georgia Tech.

"I signed with Houston today, actually," Calhoun said. "I feel great. Now it's time to go there and show what I can do."

Houston Cougars head coach Tom Penders has not been available for comment. </td> </tr> </tbody> </table>
