This whole Bennett team moving to OKC ( They are no longer the Sonics ) I have read a ton of posts from both sides I for one think the whole situation stinks... but oh.. well I guess Sonic fans can hope that Stern gives Seattle an expansion to say Ooops sorry like he did for Charlotte.. but he wont.. in his words Seattle can not support an NBA franchise. Fine.. so be it.. here you go the team is moving to OKC and now the NBA doesn't have to waste their time in Seattle. What I want to know is from all of you " experts " telling us how bad the NBA is in Seattle and how we should just stop whinning, crying, and buck up it is the way of economic growth. REALLY !??! I am curious.. All of those people that have no problem in the world with what went on in Seattle.. I ask you to answer me honestly... say a group of investers from Butte,Montana ( pronounced byoot ) anted up say 600 million to buy the Bulls from Chicago. and after a lengthy debate between the new owners and the city of Chicago on how the team need a NEW and much improved stadium at the citys expence because they do not want to see the Bulls leave Chicago... but alas no deal is made and so the proposal of moving the team to Butte is entered to the Office of Mr. Stern. after some interesting numbers strategies and nonsense meetings..The new group, The NBA owners and Stern himself say " GREAT !! a new market lets take a vote.. ooooo close one, but it's a done deal.. starting with the 2010 - 2011 season the Chicago Bulls will be moved into their new 700 million dollar stadium and all is good with the world.
Tell me I am a complete idiot. ( too late I already have ) but this is no different than what Seattle just went through. But seriously what is the difference??? be honest!! Because I personally don't see one.
WOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanx captain OBVIOUS ..... and yet you missed the whole point... I'm not comparing ANYTHING to the beloved hollowed ground that is Ok city... because NO and I repeat NO it is NOT the cities fault.. if you had actually read the whole post I could have put Fargo, North Dakota... or Anchorage , Alaska in there, it wasn't comparing cities you dope just showing a different perspective on the situation by changing the names of the cities and the team being moved. man I am sooooo tired of the " it's not our fault you couldn't keep your team" or " don't blame us your state sucks " c'mon I'll bet your dad is bigger than my dad too.... enjoy your team.. enjoy the sport and I hope you can keep them for 42 years down in your hotbed of sports fanatics.. because us up here in nowhereland could only support them for 41
Interesting perspective and I would have to agree that it's absolutely awful and not much of a difference. I was picturing my favorite NBA team, the Detroit Pistons, moving to Des Moines, Iowa. What a crime it would be! Even worse, as a fan, there's nothing I could do to stop it. I don't own another NBA team, I'm not the Commissioner and I don't have billions of dollars.
Now the question might be, would I still root for the Des Moines Cornhuskers? I can't see being a fan for the Cavaliers, Bulls or Pacers. I think I not have that much interest in the NBA for awhile as I would really have no one to cheer on.
By the way, Seattle's metro population is 3.2 million. OKC's metro population is 1.2 million. I live in Grand Rapids, MI which has a metro population of 1.3 million and there is no way we can support an NBA franchise. We could barely support a CBA team when it was here. It will be great for OKC for a couple years but I think the "shine" will wear off. Maybe they will want to move back to Seattle by then.
Wanna see what the country thinks of Oklahoma, look at wintrest.com/oklahoma celebrities............very funny, pam anderson is my favorite one in there
Maybe in the 1940s or 1950s when Butte was the largest city in Montana with a relatively thriving economy due to the copper mining industry . However , present day Butte Montana has less than 30,000 people. I don't think they can possibly fill a stadium night in and night out.
What an intelligent response! Obviously, there are those that don't know it's not about the two cities' fan bases, but more about Seattle's politicians' lack of willingness to provide a state of the art facility. David Stern clearly stated that the desire for an adequate facility has been ongoing for the Sonics long before Howard Schultz sold the team. And, by the way, the Seahawks and Mariners both needed miracle saves (i.e. new stadiums) to prevent those franchises from moving.
I get so sick of ignorant responses by people whose IQ's are smaller than their hat sizes.
Wow BIG surprise.. Oklahomans ( or sooners I guess ) missing the point and taking it as an attack on their beloved state and new NBA franchise.... lighten up sheesh if I was going to rip on OKC I wouldn't do it on a sports post. I kinda like stirring up a dust cloud.. which seems like this is what I've done... hehe
