JD, A serious question you can probably get answered: Can you ask how scary it is to be spun by your ankles by some guy on ice skates? It looks to me like the spinner's head comes within inches of the ice, and I always get a sick feeling when I see that during the olympics. Plus, to be thrown into the air after that? I've never met nor known a figure skater, so you're my only hope here, Obi Wan.

I bet JD has good answer for you on that one Button.

I for one do not like to fly by airplane, and I sure as heck will not let anyone pick me up to throw me in the air. To scary, but yet I love watching it.

Well button, there you are mostly talking about pairs skaters, not dancers.  Most of the male pairs skaters are from Russia, and many are notorious drunks. So beyond the female getting spun around and all, the guy she's depending on for he life is often loaded. Actually, American female pairs skaters oftn bring over Russian males to pair with them kind of like mail order brides.

One other thing, the human muscular-skeletal system was not designed to withstand such impacts, as upon landing following a triple or quadruple jump or throw. The take offs and landings are all on one foot, so the pressures that are applied are tremendous, due to the high forces and small areas. These people practice, practice, and practice to get the sequence of movements into their muscle memory.  Therefore, their bones, muscle, tendons, etc., are getting repeatedly hammered. Almost fifty percent don't make it through a season without some serious injury. A fair percentage get their career truncated.

Thanks for the insight, JD. That's some serious stuff. So, basically, they get to get tossed around the ice for hours a day, swung by their ankles by a Russian on ice skates--who might or might not still be reeling from the night before--and then get flung in the air...and to think I thought Aussie rules football was scary!

Great point about the impact on the knees and legs, too. I wonder what the physics of the matter are. Like how many pounds per square inch and the impact ratios and that sort of stuff. I bet it's just crazy. Anyway, thanks.

Happy noontime ladies and gentlemen. I have arrived back home from my Island venture, which was pretty awesome. Worked hard and played even harder. Incredible weather for mid-late April as it usually rains most of the month. No rest for the weary though- I've got a 4:00 tee time in my golf league. I'll have 10-15 buddies over tomorrow to watch the Draft.........hopefully three 30-packs will be enough. Take care all..........

10-15 buddies? Are all these buddies charger fans or other fans also? and 30-packs? If thats not enough then what is. I will be watching the draft by myself. I don't think I could handle that many people over. Too much to clean up afterwards. Oh, by the way welcome back Super.

I'm with Dawn on this one 509. I quit golfing. It got too dangerous.

The draft starts at noon in my time zone. I will sleep in late (11:00), and send Susie out boutique shopping for new clothes. She will be very happy, being a lover of haut couture.
Then I'll have a big, leisurely brunch of bagels with cream c
