I have to go with Camby. He was dismissed when it came down to an All-Star bid, but this is just wrong. Garnett averaged 9.2 rebounds per game, 1.2 blocks and 1.4 steals. Camby averaged 13.1 boards, 1.1 steels, AND 3.6 blocks! I think that just makes it clear who really deserved it, especially when you look at the teams in the Western Conference that Camby and the Nuggets faced.
Def. POY is not always solely based off statistics. Despite all those stats Camby had the Nuggets were awful defensively. KG made the defense better by just being there. His presence led the Celtics to have the #1 defense in the league. Going from one of the worst defensive teams to the best due to one player is un-heard of. Hands down KG deserves the award, I'm glad sports writers and members around the league recognized this and gave him some of his due.
This gives me hope that KG has a chance to win MVP which he completely deserves. It will probably go to Chris Paul which I am not totally against but this should be KG's year. The guy has done so much for the city of Boston I can't even put into words. I know this is ridiculous but I feel honored to have him here and still can't believe it.
No question about it. Look at Boston's team defense statistics this year versus last year. Anyone who thinks that it's due to Ray Allen, raise your hand. Seriously, their defensive turnaround has been amazing, and KG has everything to do with it.
NY Titans, I think you're looking at the wrong stats. KG sat out many fourth quarters anyways (because of blow outs), so his individual stats are skewed. It's the team stats that tell you everything you need to know about how valuable he is. Compare his teams defensive stats to Camby's and I think the answer becomes clear.
