I turned on ESPN radio and listened to Colin Coherd who was in the middle of interviewing Reggie Theas and the question I heard him ask Reggie went something like this.
'Reggie Tom Izzo is considering going to the NBA, having coached at the college and pro level what advice do you have for him regarding the biggest difference between coaching college and the pros'
Unfortunately I didn't hear what led up to this. I haven't found any stories saying Izzo was interviewing or on someones short list. Has anyone heard anything about our great coach leaving? Please say it isn't so.

he is being considered for the Bulls job. There is a story on Yahoo about it along with a phone interview where, unfortunately, he seemed quite interested. He says they haven't contacted him yet, but would listen to what they have to say. Apperantly Rick Carlisle is the front runner for the job.

It would immensly suck if he left, but I think he is a spartan and I doubt he will leave. I think he has put too much into Michigan State to ditch us.

I can honestly say that I NEVER saw this coming. It would be a terrible day for Spartan fans if Izzo left. I personally don't see it happening though. We have a very good recruiting class coming in next year, lead by Delvon Roe. We will also be National Championship contenders for at least the next 3 or 4 years. I just can't see Izzo leaving at a strong point like this in the organization.
Don't leave Izzo!!

The NBA product has improved, but not nearly enough for Izzo to leave a program and a city (and state for that matter) that reveres him. He has the keys, where in the NBA the players will simply let him borrow the keys. You just can't coach multi millionaires the same way you coach amateurs, and it will be a big adjustment for Izzo. If he has lost the passion for the college game and wants a new challenge, I promise he will rue the day he made the switch. Money will NOT buy anything close to what he has at MSU.

I read an article about this in my local newspaper yesterday. It sounds like Izzo is trying to get an interview for the Bulls job. He was quoted saying the NBA is the ultimate level and would like to coach at the ultimate level. Rick Carlise was also a potential candidate.
This is not the first time Izzo has considered leaving for the NBA. He will try the NBA at some point in his career - this may be the right situation for him being close to home.
That sucks for you guys too because Tom Crean would have been a perfect replacement for Izzo.
Good Luck!

I heard about that rumor. If it's true that he's supposively going to the Chicago Bulls, than that's good for him. But knowing Indiana's new coach Tom Crean went to MIch. St., what's the possibility he will leave IU in a few seasons to go to his alma matter? Personally, I hope he stays for the Big Ten's sake of staying a power conference.

I don't see it happening...this year. Izzo has said from the begining he wants to build a program. Not a team. I don't think he is there yet and I think he knows that too. If they do not make a deep run this season, I think we start to look at who would replace Izzo. This year though we are safe with the team he has put together for 08-09. I'll just hold tight and sit on my hands to save my finger nails!

I don't think he will leave. The MSU basketball squad looks real promising this year. You can almost smell a national championship...

I don't know how to say this, but if Izzo doesn't leave now, or at the end of '09 then he we will be gone in 4 years. No doubt he has lost intrest in the college game because I asked him once if he would be coaching by the time my son ,14, would be in college and he just say he would pobrably be retired (obviously using that as an excuse to say he will become an NBA coach).
If you thought that if we win it all in '09 that he would stay... you are most likely wrong that would rise his stock level immensely. And it would be a great way for him to end his legacy at MSU.
Then if Izzo doesn't win it in '09, and he leaves for the NBA what do we do with the Izzone do we rename it? Or do we keep because of his legacy he left us?
If Izzo leaves I won't lose any respect for him as a coach. I will just lose my respect of him as a fellow spartan and as the former MSU coach.
If he leaves for NBA I say will should go up and all together never consider him as a spartan again!
Don't leave!
