It has been reported that the Redskins plan to draft a 3rd string Quarterback in this weekend's draft. Can someone explain to me why this is a sensible thing to do?? It seems like a Lose-Lose proposition to me.

Suppose the Redskins use one of their 4 quality picks (Round 1, 2, or 3) on a quarterback, then they will get a quality QB prospect who may turn into a future starter. The problem with this scenario is that it is a vote of no confidence in Jason Campbell and his confidence goes in the toilet.

Alternately, they could use one of their later round picks to grab a quarterback, such as they did last year with Carson Palmer's kid brother. The problem with this scenario is you get a dog-meat prospect who has virtually no chance of contributing, and you have just wasted a pick. Yes, New England got Tom Brady in the 6th, but does anybody think that is going to happen again in our lifetime.

If they wanted a 3rd string QB then they should have held onto Mark Brunell.

I don't think you are quite getting the point. First, the Redskins won't use one of the top picks to go with a QB. They may by chance go with one with the second third pick, which is basically a fourth round pick, but highly unlikely. Even still, that will not hurt Jason Campbell's vote of confidence because Zorn has sat him down and stated "You are the future QB to lead the team." Also, it is no secret that they want a third string QB to groom, so it won't be of surprise to Campbell them drafting one.

Keeping Mark Brunell would be a waste. By the time you get to your third string QB, its almost certain the season would be lost. Todd Collins is 36 going on 37 this year, he can only be the number two backup for so long. Mark Brunell is no spring chicken. Geting in a young number 3 QB allows them time to groom him untill Collins is done to step up to the number two. And in time, he could be a number 1 if needed.

Jordan Palmer was a low risk high reward player. They will most likely go in the fifth round for a QB. This years drafts has some "promising" late rounders. Reports show the Redskins have interest in Josh Johnson, who probably will go fourth or third, and Erick Ainge. Erick Ainge was much better than J. Palmer and would be a wonder project. The draft is always a crap shoot and there is no gaurantee. The point is the Redskins need to get younger at QB.
