As most of you know i always do a grade for the draft and the off season to date for the NFC East. division teams.  So here it goes.

Washington -  Washington fans should be very happy with how the skins handled their draft they didn't get any impact players but stayed the course for the first time in over a decade and got some real solid players in the second round and third round in  Thomas , Kelly, Davis and Rinehart. however after the 3rd round the pickin's was slim for them.  They just didn't do a good job on the second day picks and they reach for some of those players.  They have for the first time in over a decade not done anything in free agency that matters.  That is a big switch.  I won't penalized them for that because normally they over spend here and get nothing for it.  Maybe by doing nothing in free agency they actually improve themselves and they will be better with just the draft picks.  Draft Grade - B /  Off season Grade C ( doing nothing is sometimes better than doing something)  / Overall C+

Philadelphia -   Man, when the tackle they wanted didn't fall to them and i don't understand that they had some choices for a Big strong OT at that #1 pick it just wasn't the guy they had in mind.  i won't fault them though for trading out and picking up an additional first rounder in 2009.  So that a great consolation prize for next year but we are talking about this year.  The best picks the Eagles had was Jackson as a return guy.  He will not be an impact WR he is just to small and big physical corners are going to knock him around like a rag doll.  But he will be an impact in the return game.  the other pick of Demps from UTEP will help in a couple of years and he will be a force on special teams.  Other than that all they got was just guys.  I thought this was the poorest draft that the eagles have had in years and usually they do a very good especially with turning 3rd and 4th round players into solid players.  The other problem was they didn't even trade around and get some WR help in the draft. or free agency and please don't talk about Jackson he is not going to be a big help there.    They did sign A. Samuels CB in the off season which was a great pickup  so good for them there. he will  be an impact CB for them.   Draft Grade D+ /  Off season B+  / Overall C+.

NYG - Picking last in the draft is always a tough position to be in.  But the Giants got a high quality i believe an impact safety in Phillips.  That was a stroke of luck that he fell that far and it was a big big need for the giants.  Getting Thomas in the second was a nice pick but he comes with alot of baggage (Ie.. Schockey) Manningham was a nice pick as well.   Kehl at LB in the 4th are you kidding me he was projected to go 7th in most drafts.   Goff was actually a better pick and he is a little slow as a LB.  other than that they got  just guys.  no real impact players other than Phillips.  Won't fault them to much there considering where they were picking.   Draft B- Getting phillips made this grade other than that the draft wasn't all that strong, but again picking last is never easy)  /   Offseason C (signing Carr as a backup was about the only good thing so far in the free agency).   Overall C+

Dallas -  Getting Jones who is a pure burner at RB and the 3rd best back in this draft as well as getting the best CB in this draft which Jenkins is the only CB who can come in and start immediately out of all the CB's in this draft this was an absolute first round gold strike for Dallas.  Now they didn't get a WR but lets face it Jerry Jones was right on there are no positively no impact WR in this draft with that said what does the Cowboys do.  They go out and get the second best TE in the draft instead.  Dallas traded around and now has 10 picks for the 2009 draft (1, 2, 3,3,4,4,5,6,6,7) In addition they got another rock solid RB in Choice in the third.  Now with that all said they absolutely sucked on picks #5 and #6. But all you usually get late in the draft are just guys nothing special.   both of those guys are projects and will be at best practice squaders.  Dallas didn't get a WR but its not a priority right now they have a very good WR corp.  They needed depth at OG but they are signing rookie free agents for that.  Overall the draft grade was a A-  ( Sorry NFC East fans the cowboys had the best draft of all the east teams "no bout a doubt it"  LOL).   Off season - Pacman If he is reinstated he will be one of the top CB's and punt return men in the league.  Newman, Pacman, Henry and Jenkins HUMMM that the best CB group in the NFL.  Sorry East teams you won't be throwing on Nate Jones and Jaques reeves this year.  Your going to have serious problems throwing on Dallas period.    {Picking Thomas ILB for very little money to start with James at ILB is just icing on the cake.  Off season Grade A- ( C+ if Pacman is not reinstated this season)  Overall Grade  A-

No Homer here boys its just the facts of where it stands today.  Maybe it changes if the other east teams do something that has a high impact after or just before June 1st. But for now this is how it stands.

If washington continues with Zorn and drafting smart they just may save synder some money.  Not sure what happen to the eagles they general are one of the better drafting teams in the league.  Giants are good at getting a couple of good draft picks then usually thats it.  this year didn't change but this year they had an excuse. they were picking last. so it  worked out this year for them.

I like our second day picks a lot.  We got the best punter in the draft, got Colt Brennan as our 3rd stringer and future backup, filled some of our needs and made some good trades.  If anything should "penalize" us on draft day was taking the TE Davis instead of a lineman. Even though we didnt make a big splash in free agency, we didnt lose anyone important from our playoff year.  that's the most important thing.

I thought the Eagles made a great trade.  they really jipped the Panthers with that since Carolina was desperate for Otah.  Philly made them shell out major draft picks.  But they shoulda gone with someone like Sweed instead of Jackson.

I agree with most things about the Giants.  But they should of traded shockey now that their already on bad terms with him.  They got too greedy and wanted more than a 2nd rounder.

Cowboys...ill give you that they had a good draft and offseason, but i think your being a bit generous.  They could have gotten a solid receiver instead of a TE.

Remember, the draft isnt about immediate impact, its about building for the future of your franchise.

Yeah he's being very generous, but it's expected from a fan of your team. I gibe the Redskins a B+ offseason, because in the past they have blown money away, and if this is what we get w/ Zorn as head coach then I like it. I prefer to build a team, then to try and buy one.

Besides, everyone is liking the Jones pickup in the draft for the Cowboys, and I think he will compliment Barber very well, but he's not going to be the pudding that everyone thinks he is.

Doing nothing is better than doing something this offseason for the skins.  They have the same group of core players but a new system and coach.  I think they'll struggle at first, but by the end of the season, the offense should be pretty good.  My theory of why the Skins drafted two WR and a TE in round two is that they want fresh legs throughout the game.  I guess Zorn is going with the speed kills mentality and hopes depth at WR can lead to more scoring later in games.

Sorry man, but I played Div 2 ball at RB, and if I had Ark running game, and O-line... I would be in the draft atm.

Look it up on Youtube or were you want. He had gaping holes.. Yes, he's fast... So is Steve Slaton, but so are LB's and Safties teh size of LB's now days..

You haven't noticed that teams go to 2 backs now? Passing game now, and will be for a while.
