I like the idea of going to a WCO instead of trying to use Clinton Portis in traditional up the gut between the tackles RB like Joe Gibbs tried to do with him.  Ladell Betts is more of the take it up the middle and grind it while clinton is the take it outside for the home run.  Clinton in his first two years with the Broncos ran wild putting up 1500 plus yards a season.  The broncos used a wco style  offense with blocking schemes which opened big holes for portis.  I expect once the Redskins start spreading defenses out with Santana Moss, Devin Thomas, Antwaan Randle El, Malcolm Kelly, Fred Davis and Chris Cooley portis will be able to return to the days of taking it to the house.  If defenses start having to respect our abillity to pass portis will have a field day with them.

The redskins should have no reason or excuses for not being able to put up points every week with all the new weapons.  Our offensive line although it is aging is still very good.  Jon Jansen and Randy Thomas will be back this year from injury.  Stephon Heyer solidified himself as a good backup and potential replacement for jansen.  Lorenzo Alexander gained alot of valuable experience filling in along the offensive line last year and with the addition of Chad Rinehart our offensive line should be in good shape.  I also heard during the off season that one of the biggest injuries with the redskins has been hamstring pulls all through out the team not just WR that dan snyder hired people just for this that specialize in hammy pulls and preventive measures.  I can only hope that this will help us from being riddled again with hamstring problems.

Cj2887 what about Jason Campbell.....

Do you mean what about jason in reference to his injury or just his abillity.  I think the injury with Jasons knee is pretty much heeled so he should be working out in the mini camp this weekend.  If you are talking about jason's abillity well that is another story but we have to be honest here jason during his tenure as a starter hasn't had the offensive weapons and when he did they were usually nicked up or hampered by some sort of injury.  I also think the Redskins offense under al saunders and joe gibbs was pretty predictable so hopefully this changes under coach Jim Zorn.

Jason had his best year in college while playing in a WCO.  Lots of people beleive jason wouldn't have been drafted by the redskins if it wasn't for his last year playing in the WCO.  I expect since he had his best production in college while in the wco he should play better using that style offense in the NFL.  I think Coach Zorn willalso bring out the best in jason and help him understand what it takes to be a good qb in the nfl.  Jason shouldn't have any reason left this year not to succeed with one of the best qb teachers in the game helping him not to mention the addition of Devin Thomas, Fred Davis and Malcolm Kelly to go along with Santana Moss, Antwaan Randle El, Chris Cooley and Clinton Portis.

you all have made very good points.i hear and see all the time the Redskins will finish last in the east.i say bs.i believe the skins will put together a playoff season and shock many .like said befor portis will get back to a style of ruuning that made him be so good.with the additions of the draft only make good sense to me.i think now with santa healthy he will stretch the field can't double him .i also think cooley will have a great year.the offense will be te friendly for him.with davis run a double t.e. set and stretch it with davis cooley will make him a better player.now we have the big wr's to cross the quick out side deep threats .and 2 t.e. that can take it all the way to paydirt.whats not to like.the d finished 8th and kept all the starters and added a decient cb in the draft.would of liked to see a d end but when time came wasn't really any body there.i give the skins an A.HAIL ALL SKIN FANS

cblong, great point about Alexander having his MVP season in this system (and he was a puss, imagine what portis and betts will be able to do)!  I'm a die-hard skins fan but i live in Seattle, I've seen Zorn's offense for years and here's my prediction on how things will pan out:

Portis will thrive.  Zorn's offense is based on quick throws about 60% of the plays and the majority of the runs called are draws.  This will give Portis an ability to use his quickness and elusiveness to run through the line because the DL will be on a pass rush, leaving Portis 1-on-1 with linebackers... he makes one guy miss and then has TONS of field in front of him, look for big things from the run game especially cause Portis has the breakaway speed to house it when he gets that space whereas Alexander could never run more than 15 yds before being caught in this system.

The addition of Davis at TE will be enormous for Campbell.  Remember that this is a completely new offense and even though it is a much smaller playbook than what he had to deal with before, it will still take time for him to become accustomed to it.  When a QB is not completely comfortable with the plays/system, who are his safety valves?  The TE... now he has two very good ones.

Also the passing game has been very poor the last few years, I attribute this to Campbell having difficulty finding his small receivers because they provide small targets, especially over the middle cause the ball has to be put right on the bullseye since receivers don't have time to adjust to short passes.  Having large receivers to run over the middle will give him an easier target to hit on crossing routes (which you will see very often) and open things up for Moss and whoever else becomes our other outside receiver.  Randle El will love Zorn because when Zorn was a QB in Seattle he made a living off of trick plays, I guarantee that El will be used in even more trickery than when he was in Pitt.  Moss will also enjoy Zorn's offense because it's a passing game designed to get the ball into the hands of his playmakers quickly and let them rack up YAC... Moss is one of the fastest and best open field players in the game, so watch for him on SC in the future.

Now I'm not saying all of this will happen this year... it's a completely new offensive philosophy, but I do believe that it will work in time as long as Danny gives him a few years to do his thing, we all know that patience has not been Snyder's forte in the past...

That all sounds great and I'm sure the new Redskins offense will look similar, but Zorn was never the offensive coordinator in Seattle, he was only the QB's coach.  I would expect it to look very similar though.

I can honestly say that I was shocked to see the Skins take Brennan. All of these complecations last year at QB and they draft another. I know he probably won't start but the QB situation in Washington is a mess.
