I wish they would have given Botts more of a chance. 38 at bats over 26 games is not giving anyone a fair shot at playing. I got the feeling when spring training was over and Botts made the team that Ron Washington didn't really want him there.
I don't think Shelton can do anymore that Botts did. I hope he proves me wrong.
Time to release Broussard and let Nate Gold have a chance to prove he can play first base and hit the ball.
10 days to trade Botts. I would bet someone will give him a roster spot and give him more of a chance to play than Ron Washington did. I hope he catches on and mashes the ball. Good Luck Jason Botts.
Botts had more at bats last year and then this year. He sucks and we can't waste time with him anymore. He is like a nelson cruz we keep bringing him up and he will hit on one home run and then nothing after that. As for Shelton I like it but why hit him 6th. I don't understand this 6th hole thing. Who ever is hitting the worst they hit 6th and he ever is just called up from aaa hits 6th. We need Murphy to hit there or bradley. By the way Jennings has to go or at least put him on the 60 day DL. Tonight we will see some new faces lets see what they got. We have the worst record in the majors bring them all up and lets start buliding a major league team today.
You guys do realize that without the first 2 weeks of April 06 no one would know who Chris Shelton is right? He has effectively none nothing since then, including spending all of 07 at AAA. If its me and this season is in the tank already, id rather play a guy who has less experience.
hookem, aren’t you contradicting yourself there? You don’t want Botts, but at the same time you want to bring up the whole AAA team...
Bring the players up that aren't on the roster. Botts was on the Rangers roster i want the players that aren't on the roster. Do you realize that nobody outside of arlington knows who Botts is right. Then who would you play if you know that shelton can't play, then who can. Don't call me out and then have no answer to the post, the post was botts and I think he sucks. I want to see new blood at first and that right now is shelton. We finally are bringing up new guys like boggs and should get some young arms up here soon. We need to start over in may with guys like boggs and maybe even duran will start to play. Lets see nate come up and maybe even my boy Roberts at 3rd.
How good is Gold on defense? (I only know of him by name and as a 'power hitter' in the minors.)
Right now aren't the Rangers grooming Davis as heir-apparent at first? And they could always slide Salty to there if the team gets better catching options (we know we all like offense from the C, but if Teagarden or Ramirez end up with the better defense and game calling ... then put Salty's 20+HR potential in a corner)
oh but you are mistaken thier, Botts is known all over this country.i would like to see him go to the Reds..we did give you a very good bat. Botts just needs some at bats, he should be an every day player. gl all.
Hookem, great, you think Botts sucks...tell us something we dont already know! And how does being known outside of Arlington matter in anything? Plus how are you going to bring up all these AAA players when none of them are on the 40 man roster? Let me guess you want to cut all the major leaguers dont you?? Good luck with that one!
"Botts sucks"? Great analysis guys. Why not try "Botts is a dummy" or "Botts is a stupidface"? Let's try growing up about this and think about it analytically.
Botts has hit for over a .300 AVG in the minor leagues, including two excellent full seasons in 2004 (24 HR, 92 RBI) and 2005 (25 HR, 102 RBI).
Botts has nothing left to prove in the minors.
Botts has not performed at the same level in the majors (.231 AVG, .669 OPS).
Botts has only 282 AB at the major-league level, spread over the past 4 seasons.
Now, there are two problems with concluding that Botts cannot hit at the highest level:
Too small of a sample size. It is very common for players to slump for significant parts of a season and 282 at bats is equivalent to only about half of a typical player's season.
No consistent playing time. Botts' 282 career at bats are spread over four seasons.
I'm not trying to say that I know Jason Botts will become the next great power hitter, but I do know that he has tons of potential and has not been given a real opportunity to prove himself with the big club.
Given Botts' potential, Broussard's inconsistency at the plate, and the fact that the Rangers organization never expected to contend this season, why wouldn't they make Botts the everyday 1B and give him some consistent playing time to determine if he's going to live up to his potential?
I'm certain the Rangers front office has analyzed these scenarios much more than I have and are doing what they think is best for the organization, but I believe Botts deserves a little more consideration....rather than just saying that he "sucks". After all, he's still playing professional baseball, and what are we doing? We're just blogging about it.
In response to arcblade and all others with a man-crush on Salty. He has not shown me anything yet. I know he is only 23 years old but his numbers in the big leagues are not that hot.
.265 BA .315 OBP .417 SLG in 98 Games and 324 AB not to mention his 80 strikeouts to only 23 walks and sub-par defense (did make a nice throw on a strike out, throw out DP last week)
I hope Salty does start to hit so he can improve his trade value. He is not the answer at catcher for the Rangers. I'll take Teagarden or Max Ramirez after they get a little more seasoning in the minors.

Can I please call Gerald Laird a.k.a. "The Tool" those things?
I think you just did call Rich I mean Gerald Laird those things. Why is he still on the roster? Funny how NO ONE wants him, not Milwaukee or New York or the Independent League in Canada. And the Brewers usually seem to want all the ex- Rangers.
