Here is the interesting thing about all of these recruits. I have been trying to find video on all of them and scouting reports. The video backs up the scouting report when I can find them, but here is the deal.
All of the players BCG has brought in can hit the court and play at a highly skilled level. There are no real projects. Go look at highlights of Miller, Liggins, Euton and Hood (Just google for them they are out there). These guys can all already play. Even his walkons are shooting like high 40% from 3. Euton take jumpers from three and can create off the dribble, has great hands, and can pass at 6'9". Miller is a beast, this kid can hoop. Hood has great skill as well. Liggins was probably the least impressive one of the four that I mentioned and the guy obviously has excellent ball handling skills. The list goes on an and on. I mean you have Harrellson which no one thinks is a star but has a nice game and is a big body (but we don't need another Pat we need someone to complement Pat). Ferguson, which the scouting reports say the kid is dynomite. Galloway, the guy average 8 or 9 assists in 20 minutes of play per game at the JUCO level.
Seems like Tubs had a habit of bringing in guys which may or may not pan out. I mean look at the players on the team now (Coury, Carter, Williams, Harris, Stevenson, Stewart, Meeks, Porter, and Jasper). With the exception of Meeks and Jasper, these guys all had things to work on to earn playing time. Contrast that with this with BCG's first two classes (Pat, Legion, Liggins, Miller, Harrellson, Galloway, Slone) - These guys, from top to bottom will hit the floor and play from day 1 or at least within the first season. Think about the two teams you would have if you played one another, who would win after a seasons worth of practice together.
Team A: Jasper - PG, Meeks - SG, Harris - SF, Stevenson - PF, Williams - C, with Coury, Carter, Porter, and Stewart off of the bench. Who scores for team A? Meeks and that's all.
Team B: Liggins- PG, Slone (Legion if he were still around) - SG, Miller - SF, Pat - PF, Harrellson - C, with Legion and Galloway off the bench. Who scores for team B? Pat, Miller, Slone, Harrellson, Legion - and the story is Galloway can score he just chooses not too and Liggins looks like he will get his to the basket at 6'6".
Now if you go minus 1 and plus 1 for fairness: Team A gets Bradley, Crawford, Morris, Orbzut, Perry, and Thomas. Team B: gets Euton, Ferguson, possibly Hood, Wall, and Sidney.
Team A now has four legit scorers: Meeks, Crawford, Morris, and Bradley.
Team B now has 8 or 9 guys that can score: Pat, Miller, Slone, Legion, Harrellson, Euton, Fergonson, Hood, Sidney.
Get my point, the talent level from an offensive prospective is improving tremendously. I was and am a Tubby supporter but I really think that his recruiting the wrong mix of talent has put us in this funk for the last three seasons. That's not a knock on Tubs or any of the current players because I really think Meeks, Jasper, and Stevenson (an outside chance at Harris) will show us something special before it is all done.
I am really getting excited about UK basketball for the future, it looks really bright.
