"And as far as UK not deserving to get in give me a team with a better resume that had to encounter as many injuries and setbacks. UK was more deserving than any team that didn't get in b/c they won the games they had to have. When all the bubble talk was surfacing more teams lost and left it to chance while Kentucky was posting a 12-4 conference record and finishing the year on a strong note. "

Dayton had a better resume top to bottom than UK and had injury/illness problems and did not get in.

"Are you on crack Journey Force?  The team that Gillispie inherited was the least talented group since Eddie Sutton left the team on probation.  And who's doing is that?  That's right genious----Tubby Smith.  On top of that....the injuries hurt them just as much with their two best players geting hurt.  Gillispie did one hell of a job getting that team where they were. "

Ok, so let's recap.  In Tubby's first year, he won a national championship and his performance was discounted because he didn't recruit the players he won with...even though he did win with them.

In Billy Clyde's first year, he struggled early losing to teams UK has never even heard of before and getting blown out by a team that is not known for being a basketball powerhouse (Vandy).  Say it with me, "UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD UK LOSE TO GARDNER-WEBB BY 16 POINTS AT RUPP ARENA!"  He managed to pull together a number of wins against the mediocre to bad teams in the mediocre (this year) SEC (none got past the sweet 16).   I will give them a good win over Tennessee.

Now, who should be praised and who should be bashed?  Why is it happening the other way around?

UK wasn't talented this year?    If all were healthy, UK would have made much more noise than they did.  Hell, with Patterson back at the end of the season, you could have counted on at least another round in the tourny.

For people to blame tubby for the state of the program is insane.  Look at his overall winning percentage at UK.  It's actually HIGHER than UK's all time average.  Tubby had some incredible teams while he coached.

Tubby is the ONLY UK coach to beat UNC 4 times.  Tubby never missed a year in the NCAAs.

Not only those, but he was a GREAT ambassador for the university, and for college basketball as a whole, (as he still is)

besides, tubby would never have lost to GW or san diego.

Well said about Tubby.

Journy LOL about Dayton. They had some good wins early but choked down the stretch. Any team that has that kind of record in the A-10 isn't really that worthy of a bid.

I recognize Dayton struggled down the stretch, but that was due in large part to injuries.  Dayton's Record, SOS and RPI were all better than Kentucky.  Like I said, Kentucky benefitted from a weakened SEC this year.  There were two good teams in the SEC and the rest were mediocre to garbage.

Arguments could be made all day over who made it and who didn't, but by your own measure, Dayton went 8-8 in a league that was worse than the "mediocre to garbage" that the SEC was, vs. a UK team that had as many, and with an honest eye, more injuries than Dayton, and went 12-4 in conference.

I'm not defending UK's entry over the general populace, but the case you make for Dayton in that example, over UK, is a weak one.

wordjockey hit the nail on the head.

Dayton had many impressive non-conference wins (Louisville and Pitt come to mind). We all know that the selection committee looks at wins down the stretch more so than wins in November and December. Dayton had injuries but Kentucky was banged up and injured throughout the whole season. Jodie Meeks and Derrick Jasper were never 100% and Pat Patterson missed the last part of the year. Bottom line is despite the injuries the Cats found a way to win in a "mediocre to garbage" league that was still better than the A-10. I agree that the case for Dayton is weak in this case, other teams have stronger arguments, but you could find weaknesses in each team.

Can we at least all agree that a bubble team that does poorly down the stretch, no matter the conference, is in big trouble on selection Sunday?

Journey Force---No one discounts the 98 national title in which Tubby coached.  Yes it was a great job that year.  He also had a great team in 03 - which I still to this day think it was the actual best team in basketball that year.  Outside of those two years, the teams were mediocre.  That is not accecptable to be mediocre 8 out of 10 years.

Apparantely you did not listen to what I said which is probably your entire problem to begin with.  WHY DO YOU THINK UK LOST TO GARDER WEBB AND SAN DIEGO---THATS RIGHT GENIOUS--TUBBY LEFT THE TEAM WITH SO LITTLE DEPTH AND VERY LITTLE TALENT---ON TOP OF THAT, THEY HAD MULTIPLE INJURY PROBLEMS THOUGHOUT THE YEAR---BILLY G DID A HELL OF A JOB IN GETTING THAT TEAM WHERE THEY WERE CONSIDERING ALL OF THOSE FACTORS.

You are so blinded by your hatred and jealosy of Kentucky that you can not see the facts.  You need to start thinking a little bit or maybe actually learining a little bit before you post rediculous things.  Journey Force--one can only hope that you can start posting accurate and intersting things and hopefully you can start listening a little more...instead of just running your flaps.

Tubby gets a much deserved award and induction into the Kentucky Hall of Fame. Anyone who disagrees is an ignorant redneck/hillbilly (Jason Wells) who doesn't know squat about basketball or UK basketball in general.

Jason Wells U R AN IDIOT! Tubby won with Rick Pitino's big f-in' whoop. The players that won in '98 have been noted as saying that Tubby Smith came to them and said if we are going to win we have to start doing it my way. What did they do? They all agreed to get over the whole Pitino act, and start playing Tubby ball.

I still am amazed at all the dope UK fans who bring up that Tubby won with Pitino's players.
OH WAIT. Roy Williams won the 2005 National Title with Matt Doherty's players; Sean May, Raymond Felton, Rashaad McCants all were recruited and signed by Doherty, NOT ROY WILLIAMS. Oh by u idiots forget that that actually happened, and not to mention that not a single freakin' person that roots for UNC would ever ever ever care that Roy Williams won with players that weren't his. Jason Wells, stop posting your non-sense garbage on this message board because it makes me want to vomit.
