Dont get me wrong, im a big fan of the kid. Hes a great clutch player and in the last half of the season has really come through off the bench to score some much needed points, but there is no way he is remotely ready for the NBA
Agreed. I must say i was shocked myself, especially considering he didn't even start for the Heels. Not that it makes THAT much of a difference, but if I were him I would wait and work myself into the starting lineup and improve my stock a little bit for another year. But then again, I'm NOT Danny Green. Who knows what's going on his life, you know? So best of luck to ya Danny with whatever you decide!
I don't believe that this is about Danny thinking he's ready to leave for the NBA. As a junior, he has nothing to lose by declaring without hiring an agent. He gets to workout with the teams, gets to be treated pretty nice by said teams, and gets some great feedback about his game and where the NBA feels he needs to improve. Then he comes back to Chapel Hill and withdraws from the draft and uses the info he gained to make himself into a better prospect at the end of his senior year. It would almost be silly for any decent college junior not to do this.
TarHeel- I agree with you 100%. I just think he wants to see what he needs to do to become a 1st round pick. Now with Ty and Wyane I think both are gone. I think its a Big Mistake for both. I understand Ty wants the Payday because he gets hurt alot so I guess he doesnt want to come back and get hurt again. With Wayne I think he can become a good NBA player but not this year. If he comes back he can be a Top 10 Pick next year. He has a really nice shot when he is on. Good Luck to all of them, but there is no chance all 3 come back.
I have to agree, I believe two of the three might be back leaving Ty on draft day. Wayne has a lot to learn and develop before he is even ready for the NBA. He is a great shooter, but he needs to develop his game off the dribble more. I believe all are declaring without agents for a reason. I think Roy smartly advised them to test the waters but without an agent and through his help, he will help them determine if its the best option for them at this time. I think that Wayne would be best served by staying around... Its sort of like the whole Joesph Forte thing, Great college player but didn't take the time to develop the skills needed at the next level.
He has a really nice shot when he is on. Good Luck to all of them, but there is no chance all 3 come back. Wayne Ellington will not be a first round pick this (or any other) year. He's a very good player, but how often do "streaky" shooting, undersized, college off-guards go top 10 in the NBA Draft? I'll give you a hint... the last one was in 2002. Anyone know how much Dajuan Wagner is contributing to the Cavalier playoff run this year?
I'll give you a real honest opinion here. If all three come back and play another year, they still won't be ready to shine in the NBA, or be a lottery pick, the problem is, it isn't about shining, it's about getting that check, that's all that matters, and it would be for me too. All three IMO are just ok players, until I'm proven other wise that's how I feel, and I still think we had the best team last year and should have won it all.
On another subject for those Tar Heel fans who signed up to play in my fantasy baseball league, thank you. Those who thought signing up to be nice and then not participating would be cool, well thanks, but no thanks, click on the damn league and set your lineup, hell you don't have to talk to us, just make it competitive.
Outside of Lawson, Green was the most electrifying player on the team without question. He is the most NBA ready of the players on the team. He will surely open some eyes and I think the main reason he is leaving is because he isn't second fiddle to Hansbrough and they never meshed on the court. Go look at game film, he rarely passed to Tyler. His pregame dance was mimicky. He was not happy at UNC this year and played with a chip on his shoulder. He has unlimited potential and the best thing to happen to him was not starting. He has a lot of skills to showcase because he was held back. You watch him get drafted and not come back. Green is gone, Lawson is gone and Ellington could be gone. With Stepheson gone, the tarheels are going to be in trouble. The entire college world will get to see what Tyler can do by himself. I don't want to even watch. Best player next year will be Deon Thompson, no player on the team plays defense or offense the way he does or can. When he gets solid minutes without worrying about coming out, what him explode.
Ftballgenius......I agree with one thing that you said, Green's pregame dance was mimicky. I also agree that Green is "electrifying", but you have to define that. Green is a very good player, and would start for the majority of top schools, but his productivity was largely due to the fact that he didn't start, and when he came in he was sharing the floor with Lawson, Hansbrough, and Ellington, who got most of the attention from the defense. Danny will get drafted if he stays in, but he'll most likely be a middle second rounder, and will probably go to a playoff team. If that does happen, he'll be the 8th or 9th guy which means he will back up 2 at the off guard position. He's a good defender, an even better shot blocker, and a solid post up shooter (better than Ellington in my opinion), but he's a mediocre slasher and lacks the ball handeling skills that are needed against the quickness of NBA players. What he needs to do is stay and hope that Ellington doesn't, this way he'll be able to start, and improve his skills handeling the ball and creating shots.
Also, don't forget that Hansbrough DID win the POY in college hoops, last time I checked, that means he's pretty good. I don't think he's ready for the NBA, and probably won't be after next season. His size and ability simply don't fit for his position in the NBA (I just can't see him guarding Yao). But, his mentality is too fierce for him to allow his team to fail, regardless of who's around him. I don't care if Ty, Wayne, and Danny get their paycheck, all Tyler needs is someone who can handle the ball (Bobby Fraser), someone who can shoot from long range (Bobby Fraser, Will Graves), and someone who can defend the perimeter (Bobby Fraser, Marcus Ginyard), and the Heels will win over 25 games.
Finally, Deon Thompson...best player next season? Well, if you're right, it will make for a very impressive season in Chapel Hill.
I actually think Green was the best NBA prospect on the team. The NBA, whether right or wrong, drafts based on athleticism. Green has the size, strength and quickness to defend most NBA guards, has a good outside shot, can get to the rim and finish, is a good rebounder, and will be a good player off the bench to provide a spark for whoever drafts him. I think Lawson still needs to work on his outside shot and ball control and Ellington's release is a little slow. Maybe I'm just mad cuz I wanted them to come back, but whatever. All the best wishes to all these great Tar Heels.
For a second there I thought Ftballgenius was Greens' roommate. Knowing what Green was thinking and feeling, genius had to of been his roomie. When Thompson plays with the intensity and consistency of Hansborough, even then he will not be the best player on the team next year. When Lawson went out with injury last season I don't remember Deon putting the team on his shoulders and carrying them through the games they won. Last time I checked Deon didn't even average 9 points per game last season to Tyler's 23 ppg... and defensively are you kidding me? You been smoking the crack pipe a lil too often or maybe you should just stick to football that you claim to be a genius of. Tyler had more than twice as many total rebounds 352 to 164, and twice as many steals. Only thing Deon had going for him on the defensive side last season was blocked shots. Maybe you should look at a stat sheet before you go around making rediculous predictions and ending up looking like a fool.
I don't want to even watch. Ftballgenius : Do the Heels and the rest of us a favor; don't watch. Amazing how you manage to come on a thread about Danny Green and twist it into yet another opportunity to bash Hansbrough. We are all well aware of the fact that you have it in for Hansbrough. Get over yourself, nobody wants to hear it anymore.
