The old Iffster is not limber enough to pat himself on the back......but maybe, just maybe, some of you are starting to see where I'm coming from. This weekend even amazed the old icon of BS.

The Tigers faced 27 innings of Minnesota pitching and scored in only 3 of them. This is after a sweep of the Yankees. Then the collection Dombrowski calls 'the bullpen' reared its ugly head again. (Do those guys miss their fearless leader, Grilli?) Guillen has no place to play where he doesn't cost the team runs. Starters seem to have little hope of getting past 6 innings before they fold up like a $2 lawn chair.

All in all, just a highly flawed team that is good only on paper. The Tiger front office (aka - The Grifters) pulled a fast one on many. I'd rather be watching Jurjens and Miller.

Wouldn't it be nice if the Tigers just left JJones in the Twin Cities. Or maybe swap him for Craig Monroe?

Maybe if they got him from the Twins that comment would make sense.

Would you really rather be watching Miller, who has pitched worse than any Tiger starter? I guess that makes a lot of sense.

Geez goblue942.....I really don't care WHERE they leave him. They just happen to be in Minnesota. You know....send him for some takeout food and split on him while he's gone? (Too cerebral for ya?)

Miller might get better.......................(you complete the sentence.)

Miller will get better now that he has a pitching coach.

Andrew Miller is 2-2 with a 7.96 ERA right now... in a league that doesn't have a DH.  He's lasted 6 innings just once in 7 starts.  If anything, he's gotten worse.  I'm more upset about some of the deeper prospects the Tigers lost in trades this year than I am about Miller.

adrian82.....did you happen to hear the comments from Phillips and Hershiser from ESPN about Bonderman? They blame his coaches that he was never taught that he needed a changeup to be successful. Five years in the bigs and he is still "trying" to find a changeup? Hershiser blamed it directly on coaching in that they allowed him to try and get by only on his "stuff" and never LEARN how to pitch.

Come on - 5 years in the majors and your manager still has to rip you a new one  to get you to understand that your "stuff" requires you to get ahead of the batter? As Phillips said; "They've been waiting for him to become that #1A (I think he meant #1B)starter in the rotation, and so far he hasn't gotten there."

Come on iffy you love to rip our management usually. Don't change now and leave out the most suspect member.  Chuck is killing these guys, give him a copuple months and he will ruin Gallaraga's mechanics too.

Well, I don't recall any complaints about Chuck Hernandez last season. I think a lot of people want to make him the scapegoat because it is easier than admitting that the pitching staff isn't that good. If Hernandez is at fault for Rodney's injury, then he should be canned. If he is at fault because Zumaya is a clod, then fire him. If he is at fault for Rogers getting old, fire him. Sure.....Hernandez will, and should, take some of the blame.....but he isn't throwing the ball. Same with Leyland. He will, and should, take some of the blame....but he isn't swinging a bat.

I'm sure they've worked with Bonderman repeatedly on his change-up over the past couple of years.  Sometimes a guy just doesn't have the physical ability to throw a good one.

The bigger problem I see with Bondo this year is location.  He simply can't locate his slider at all.  It's a ball 80% of the time.  So hitters are sitting on his fastball.  Unless you're Randy Johnson, you can't survive on two pitches when one isn't working.  If the location is due to mechanics and they're not catching it, that's on Hernandez.  I'm not enough of an expert to tell.

Location is killing Verlander, too.  20 walks in 43 IP, plus 6 hit batsmen... that's too many free passes.  And he consistently falls behind, contributing to an elevated pitch count.  As mentioned, that seems to catch up to him after the 5th inning.  His overall ERA is 6.28 right now, but it must be 10.00+ from the 6th inning on.
