What is the story on Anthony Mix? I see that he is big (6'5") and 2 years in the league, out of Auburn. Other than that I do not know much. When and How did we acquire him? How does he stack up versus our new picks (Thomas & Kelly). Is he toast now that we drafted Thomas and Kelly?
How many Wide Receivers are the Skins likely to carry? What does the depth chart look like? Moss, Randle El, Thomas, Kelly, Mix, Thrash.
Will Fred Davis be used as a wide out in any of our sets. Does Davis have wheels.

I thought Davis could be a real sleeper, but didn't think I'd be proven right in the first few days of mini-camp.

If he doesn't make the team I'll always remember his greatest moments as a Redskin.
1. That fumble recovery on the kickoff vs. Seattle
Um, yeah

Fred Davis will probably be used as a wideout in some sets, he was originally a wide receiever before switching to tight end... His scouting report http://mvn.com/nfl-draft/2008/02/11/scouting-report-fred-davis-te-usc/ said that he was not a speedy end or reciever but had great hands and was able to read coverages and defenses... Not a very good run blocker, but a decent pass blocker.. Todd Yoder is probably going to be used more as a run blocker along side of Mike Sellers and Chris Cooley...
The Redskins I think should carry 5 wide receivers and 3 tight ends... In order of depth should be #1 Santana Moss, #2 Devin Thomas, #3 Antwaan Randle-El, #4 Malcolm Kelly, #5 James Thrash... Anthony Mix will probably be named to the practice squad since Thrash is more of an all around asset on special teams... But you know that both Moss and El are injury prone so that it is good to Mix in the Mix of things... #1 Chris Cooley, #2 Fred Davis, #3 Todd Yoder...
Mix was acquired from the New York Giants practice squad last year I think in the 4th week of the season if I am not mistaken...

It could very well be 6 wide receivers carried on the roster with Jerome Mathis in there, but with Rock Cartwright holding down the kick return duties and either Devin Thomas or Thrash taking over punt returning from Randle El... there is no room for Mathis on the roster, unless they get rid of Thrash which would be a bad mistake...

The WR position is very interesting for the Redskins this year. What will they do with all of these players. Santana Moss is the #1 wideout, Devin Thomas probably takes over the 2 spot, Antwaan Randle El takes the slot, Malcolm Kelly is 4, Anthony Mix is 5, James Thrash is 6. I think the redskins will release Jerome Mathis, Maurice Mann, Billy McMullen, Burl Toler, TE Tyler Ecker and TE Pete Schmitt. Some of these players will go to the practice squad but not many. James thrash is also a possible casualty this year. If james isn't released this year he will more then likely get released next year.

I think Tyler Ecker may be gone. This guy can not stay healthy to save his life. They may keep Mathis and cut Thrash cause he is younger. I am sure they would rather have Mathis returning kicks then have El doing it risking injury. It sure would be nice to see them in the redzone and have lined up 3 guys over 6'2 at WR. I am sure they can find miss matches heigth wise.

The way this all plays out will be interesting for the Redskins this year that is for sure. Jerome Mathis could make the team if they decide to release James Thrash. James is 33 this year and a role player. I have a feeling he may get cut since we have all of this added youth that the redskins will want to develop that they didn't foresee. Mathis was signed when the redskins didn't have anyone to return punts outside of Antwaan Randle El. I am also thinking the redskins will keep six wr's on the active roster since we can't seem to stay healthy at that position. Santana Moss, Randle El and James Thrash all missed games and even when they came back they were still injured or hampered. I like thrash however if the redskins can find a replacement for what he brings to the table on special teams he will be cut this year. The early reports from mini camp have all said good thing about our young receivers Devin Thomas, Malcolm Kelly and even Anthony Mix. The wr postion is going to be a dogfight during training camp so hopefully the best players win out.

Anthony Mix is 6'5" 235lbs he played @ Auburn with JC, in fact when the Redskins were looking for WR help while Moss and Randle El were banged up last year JC was the one that begged the team to pick him up. With his size he could play TE ala Shannon Sharpe not as a blocker but receiving TE that would be hard for most LBs and Safties because of his speed granted he's not a 4.3 more like 4.4/4.5 range. So that would give us three TEs and possibly 5 WRs even though hi is listed as a WR. Also if possible I would keep Yoder since he showed a little something at the end of last season and during the playoff game in Seattle.
Davis is another receiving TE who needs to improve his run blocking according to his pre draft profile. That just takes a commited effort on his part along with a little coaching from Stan Hixon. Thrash may be on the bubble with all the youth on the team but you can never discount experience. My hope is that Jason and the receivers get plenty of reps before the season starts.

I would love to be able to keep Anthony Mix. It will be difficult to have six receivers on the roster, but I think it can work. Santana Moss and Antwan Randel El will obviously be there. So will second round draft picks Devin Thomas and Malcolm Kelly. I think the question will be who will be the next two. They signed Jerome Mathis to serve more as a kick return specialist but you have James Thrash who has is a proven leader, special teams guy, and more than capable when called to play receiver. Anthony Mix however has the height you are looking for. He is a little raw and probably needs to work on technique. You would hate to put him on the practice squad to lose him like the Giants did. I think they should drop Mathis who really doesn't serve a purpose.

I am aware of the Jason Campbell s desire to get his friend Anthony Mix but with the way the draft played out and the Redskins picking up two very promising WR's makes it tough for anthony. I think anthony makes the team this year simply due to his size and experience in the league. Anthony will definitely be given his chance to prove himself during training camp. James Thrash however is in a precarious position with all of the players on the team that are 8-10 years younger then him. James may be a casualty this year and it won't be too big of a surprise if the rookies step up during preseason showing they can be good receivers in the NFL and fill in on the special teams units.
I think Todd Yoder will make the team but drop to the third TE pushing Tyler Ecker out of the 53 man roster. Tyler missed the entire 07 season with the groin injury and then reaggrevated the injury right before mini camp. Chris Cooley and Fred Davis will create alot of matchup problems this year so it should be really interesting to see how they use both of them.

skinzfan I think you are right. The only possible change would be if we had an injury and placed a player on IR.
I do not see Tyler Ecker making the team. James Thrash is a vetran and a warrior however he is no longer needed if the rest stay healthy. It is going to be interesting to see how this all plays out.

I say keep James Thrash and drop Jerome Mathis. We saw last year we need depth at WR. Thrash would make six with Anthondy Mix, Malcolm Kelly, Devin Thomas, Randle El, and Santana Moss. Mathis is more of a liability and we have a kick returner. Thrash has shown he can still play and still return kicks. He is a leader and great for developing our young wide receivers.

i've always been a fan of thrash and would like to see him stay.have saw one sight that zorn really wants to give mix a chance and believe he will look hard at himin preseason.if he show's some talent i think the skins will have a tough choice.mathis is younger and probably a bit faster than thrash.mathis made the probowl his rookie season as special teamer so thrash may have a hard time makeing the roster.as far as davis i think he may be the suprise this year.with him and cooley in the line up makes it very hard for oppossing d's linebackers to cover.i'm excited about this year and the possibilities we have for the o.
