Seems as as Leyland has is lost out there and the players are making the decisions now. Sheffield made his own move to left field. Although I like Leyland as a coach, It seems he has lost control. When teams with this much talent dont produce the coach usally gets canned. I Dont see this happening but maybe it should.

Very good point. I recall Guillen almost selecting Renteria as his successor at SS, when the Tigers considered getting Wilson from the Pirates. It will be interesting to see if this new lineup lasts. Will Pudge demand to be taken out of the 9th spot? Will Sheff demand a different slot in the lineup? Will Cabrera decide 1B is not where he wants to be (yet he already has DECLARED he does not want to play left.)  Teams of prima-donnas seldom function together well.

Leyland gone before the All-Star break!

I think for Leyland to keep his job, the Tigers are going to have to be .500 by June 1, and within 3 or 4 games of first at the All-Star Break.  Seeing as the AL Central does not have a clearly dominant team right now, you'd think that's achievable.  But the pitching and clutch hitting are going to have to improve tremendously.  Letting Dice-K off the hook with only 1 run last night when he walked 8 batters in 5 IP is a crime!

All the high priced talent has brought a high amount of headaches.

First Base - Cabrera seems to be happy with the move. He looks comfortable at first base. To think he has put up 6 HRs and 22 RBIs this season so far by not hitting well. I can't wait to see him start to hit.

Second Base - Polanco has started to hit after getting treatment on his back. Seems more like the Polanco from last year now.

Shortstop - The Tigers paid a high price for Renteria, but he has been living up to expectations.

Third Base - Guillen has not looked good fielding at third. He is beginning to look like a man without a position. Leyland will need to consider more time at DH for Guillen and moving Inge back to third.

Catcher - Pudge doesn't hit like he used to, but is still one of the best defensive catchers in baseball.

Centerfield - No one is moving Granderson out of center any time soon. A gold glove is in his future. The Tigers need to find a new leadoff hitter and move Granderson down to the three slot.

Right field - Ordonez flat out produces. He doesn't look locked in at the plate yet, but is still better than most when he isn't locked in. He is adequate in fielding in right and gives a lot of effort into trying to field well.

Left Field - I don't know if playing Sheffield in left will help his hitting. He is lunging at the ball. He still looks like his shoulder is bothering him a lot at the plate. Sheffield needs to look at some time on DL to get his shoulder right or retiring. He is not helping the Tigers by trying to get walks. We should be looking at a platoon her of the just called up Joyce and either Thames or Raburn.

DH - We have too many players that need to be DHs from time to time. Guillen needs to move to DH on a semi-permanent basis.

Overall (not including pitching) - Sheffield is hurting the team right now offensively. He needs to get his shoulder healthy or retire if he really thinks anything for his teammates and the team. Guillen is killing us in the field. He may need more time to get acclimated to the position, but he just doesn't look comfortable in the field at any postiion.

I could have not said this better myself. He needs to go on the 15 day DL to rest and if he comes back without improving, it might be best to just let him go. If this happens, when can get Guillen to DH and maybe Thames out in LF. I dont know if Thames would be a permanent solution, but he is better the Sheff right now.

I agree with you somewhat.  I just think that besides the Guillen-Renteria idea, Leyland is running out of ideas to get these guys to play like men and not pretenders.  He has blown up on them a few times, benched guys, and I think that he wants the team to step up and say what they think can help, whether it be a position change or a shakeup.  We will be fine later in the season if our starters stop pitching like they want to be in the same conversation as Jason Grilli.
