Nice to see my friend Betemit back. Flies out to right... Bad move by the Yanks to bring up Betemit and send down Gonzo. Only optimistic way to look at it is that they're auditioning him for trade bait.
Here are Giambi's comments:
NEW YORK -- Desperate to shake his persistent slump, Jason Giambi took a page out of slugger Alex Rodriguez's book and dressed for success.
The last two games, Giambi has played with his pant legs hiked up to the knees, A-Rod style, in the hope that a new fashion might help him break out of a skid that has him hitting just .150 this season.
"Whatever it takes right now," Giambi said.
He's going to have to try another approach. Giambi didn't manage a hit in either game, and is hitless in his last 10 at-bats and 16 plate appearances. He is 1 for his last 21, overall is just 12-for-80 this season, and is at a loss to explain why.
"It would be one thing if I was striking out, or popping up, or getting jammed," Giambi said. "But I'm hitting the ball good. I'm getting pitches to hit, I'm just not getting any hits. That's really it, more or less."
Giambi and Long are focusing, as they always do, on Giambi hitting the ball up the middle and to left field, rather than rolling it over to the right side of the infield. They have watched and re-watched video of Giambi's at-bats, trying to figure out if there is any little adjustment that could help put the slugger back on the right track.
Unfortunately for Giambi, it's not so straightforward.
"That's the whole thing, that's the hard part," Giambi said. "We've gone through my tapes, and I can't really change anything. I'm taking my walks, I'm not striking out. It's just one of those things where I'm hitting it right at everybody right now. I think it's more frustrating, because it's human nature to want to fix something. But there's nothing to fix."
I'll let you read it before I vent about these absurd comments...

That's exactly the friggin point....He's hitting the ball hard but right at the 8 fielders positioned on the right side. His inability to use the whole field or at least part of the field besides the right side is his problem.
"That's the whole thing, that's the hard part," Giambi said. "We've gone through my tapes, and I can't really change anything.
Our only hope was that he can change something, so I guess he's telling us that things won't change.
It's just one of those things where I'm hitting it right at everybody right now.
You think?!?!?
I think it's more frustrating, because it's human nature to want to fix something. But there's nothing to fix."
I actually think there is something to fix and it should be pretty simple too.....

This just in. It appears that Hollywood Harry Igawa will be getting the start on 5/9 vs. Det.

Impressive throw by Molina from his knees, and a good tag by Cano. Pettitte is pitching well through 3.....
BTW, Girardi said he's 99% sure that Igawa is going to get the call to start in the Tigers series.

I don't like Girardi's approach toward Giambi either.
"You know, sometimes it can just be a matchup where you're comfortable," Girardi said, "where you've had success off a guy and all of a sudden you have a good feeling about yourself. And it turns."
It has nothing to do with feelings or matchups, all it's got to do with is his approach. If he wants to hit to the left side that should pretty much solve it. Unless he's incapable, then in that case he doesn't belong in the majors. Definitely not at $20+ Mil.
And why is he batting 5th? Shouldn't Melky be hitting 5th instead of him? Seems like Girardi suffers from the Joe Torre Stubborness syndrome.

I think if the Yankees go into another offensive slump Joe Giradi may make a change.
Sooner or Later teams are going to pitch around Hideki Matsui...

Great catch by Cano!!!
I would say the answer to the question they asked on YES, is Manny Ramirez.

Good point... all I heard about this ST was Kevin Long working with Giambi to hit the ball to LF...where did it go... why can't he do that in a game?...
That's what bugs me the most. We were all taught when we were young how to hit to the opposite field by arching our knees and torso that way. Why shouldn't a ML player know how to do it, or at least be capable of learning it?
Another thing I never understood; why isn't it that every ML player is taught how to bunt? So many times we hear that "so and so can't bunt so he'll have to swing away instead of bunting to try moving the runners over". I don't get it.
Peralta hits one a long way to center...2-1 Indians.
