I was lucky to be living in Phoenix,Az when Jack was still an active player on the Senior Tour. I would take 1 weeks worth of my vacation time from work the week of "The Tradition" golf tourny. It was and still is one of the majors on the Senior Tour. For 6 straight years I would follow Jack for all 4 days of the tourny. I met him many times. I would started my day at the tourny by shakeing Jacks hand when he left the driving range. I have a signed Golden Bear hat (sealed in plastic)and a few golf balls. Some of the best times of my life that I will never forget.

I have always loved watching Jack play. I grew up watching golf with my dad and some of my best memories of my dad are those days when we played or watched golf. I still enjoy watching the "Old Timers" play. They just seem to have a lot more fun.

Jack will always be considered one of the greatest golfers of all time, but not many people have had the opportunity to see him as a regular guy, a sports dad, a basketball junkie, and an overall great man. I went to high school with three of his kids, played basketball with two of them and he was always there at our games. He and his wife were pretty much the team parents, supplying us with Gatorade and energy food. He was always so humble, never touting his status as the greatest golfer. Instead, he was just one of the guys, whether he was kicking field goals out on the football field or scrimmaging against our high school basketball team, he never really held back much at all. He was the parent in the stands making suggestions to the coach and players about what to do. It was a day when the media was not all around to hound him, when Nike was not omnipresent in every day life. It was a great time to grow up, and an opportunity for the greatest golfer in his era to be just Jack, just a dad, just a fan.

More than a great golfer, he was and still is a great man, and truly is a class act and I was lucky to have been at the right place at the right time to have gotten the chance to meet him during my high school days.

Great to hear about him being a regular dad attending ball games.  The media today will never let that happen with Tiger.
I was at the British Open in '05 for his last round.  He had a big group of his family there in the gallery and the applause was something I will never forget.

What a class act.  Jack was the greatest of his time and obviously at this point the greatest of all time, not only because he won tournaments, but because he was a class act and a "true" champion in that every tournament he competed in, he gave it all he had to win.

No debate there about Jack being a Class Act.  I also have fond memories of him as a young boy watching him in the 60's with my Dad.  He had a great run at being the best, a concentration level seldom matched, a complete player.  My only beef with the PGA is "What took you so long to give Jack this award?  This was a slam dunk/ no brainer with what Jack has given back to the game as far as contributions go.
