In my opinion the Tigers best young starting pitching are prospects are the two kids down at high A ball in florida Luis Marte and Rick Porcello. Both have the power arm high K potential DD likes. I think we are stuck with this slow pitch softball lineup we have until they are ready sometime next season or 2010. That would leave you with still a relatively young staff in which time Bonderman would be 30, Verlander 31 and the kids would be 24 and 22. It doesn't paint a very good picture for the staff the next year, but as the coach said " they are who we thought they were".

I hate to be a nitpicker but I'm not sure where you're getting the ages of Bonderman and Verlander from; in 2010 Verlander will be 27 and Bonderman will be 29.

i guess that's why DD is sitting in the Owner's box taking dow 7 figures a year, and considered one of the best GMs in baseball, and you Iffy are relegated to bitching about him on this blog site after stealing a respected journalists moniker.

I disagreed with the Jurrjens trade when they made it, and it still doesnt look good. We still need to see how Jurrjens does over the course of a full season to fully analyze this trade, but I was never a fan of it and probably never will be.
However, I still agree with the trade with the Marlins. The main player in the deal from the Tigers was Maybin, and it looks like he's not living up to expectations. Comparing the top performing players from this trade, so far, it's a Miller for Cabrera deal straight up. I'll always take that one. Like the Jurrjens trade, though, this one will take a while to play out before seeing who had the better deal.

Let's argue about who had the best spring ball while we are at it. How many games deep are we? Even though the Tigers have one of the worst records and pitching performances so far this year, they are a team with some great players and proven vets. Atlanta has always been a haven for talented pitching and great pitching coaches. I knew that Jair would do well. He is young and ready, but still has some growing to do in the bigs. As for Hernandez, he is a prospect and can't really be titled as anything more than minor league talent right now. Detroit released him and Jair for Edgar. Edgar is going through a slump and still hitting better than half our club. It is a sad state, but only the faithless are jumping ship. I have watched some teams in the past far cry worse than this one and pitching or no pitching we will end up with a better winning percentage than today, thanks to guys like Edgar. GO TIGERS!!!!!!
