According to the AP, A-Rod and Posada are both making strides toward returning to the Yankees lineup. David Ortiz on the other hand Is feeling pain in his right knee. "It's killing me," he said. Asked if he thinks he will have to miss some playing time, "I think so," he responded. "Probably."

Maybe it was premature for those that counted the Yankees so fast, as it seems as the Yanks begin to heal, the Red Sox may begin to suffer from Ortiz's injury. Whether he will be missing games just once in a while, or need extended periods of rest we do not know yet. But we see that injuries are something that happen all the time in sports, and just when it seems that it can't be getting worse for some teams, other teams teams begin to suffer from injuries too.

Nothing can be conclusive this early in the season. If a player is hot now, he won't necessarily continue his streak. And vice versa for a player who's struggling to get a hit. Things can change awfully quick at times, and it's bound to happen over the course of a long season.

From the AP report:

Alex Rodriguez took 57 swings in batting practice and fielded 31 grounders at third base during his first injury rehabilitation workout Friday at the New York Yankees’ minor league complex.

A-Rod hit several long homers, including a pair that went over the center-field back drop. He also ran in the outfield.

Rodriguez said the session went “good” and gave a thumb’s up as left the field for the clubhouse.

Catcher Jorge Posada took batting practice for the first time since going on the DL on April 28 with right rotator cuff tendinitis. The switch-hitter took 28 swings right-handed and 26 from the left side. Posada, expected to be out at least another month, could start a light throwing program early next week.

Better to have injuries early in the season as oppose to later in the season. But in regards to Ortiz, I'm not going to count on him being injured.

Pitching wins championships.

Red Sox staff > Yankees staff

While I agree, 2004 WS isn't yours without Ortiz. He isn't a bat that could be lost and compensated for with pitching - especially when nothing is added when he is lost.

I wouldn't count on Ortiz being injured either...But it may become a lingering problem for the Red Sox.

Regardless, I'm not that busy with the Sox injuries. I'm merely trying to show some of the people (they know who they are) that were quick to stick a fork in the Yankees, that it may not be the case.

Even if he does take some time off the Sox still have plenty of bats. It would mean that manny becomes dh and the Sox have the fastesoutfield in baseball! Youk would bat third.

But that would mean that Ellsbury or Crisp would be replacing Ortiz's bat (whichever wouldn't be starting in CF)- that isn't insignificant - especially if it is for long periods.

I'm not sure why Ortiz would say that stuff about missing time. He may have meant that he would need more days off every now and then than he has before. He's been hitting pretty well lately now right though, and not running too badly (for him). I don't see any problem right now, so I'm not sure how or why this came up. Could just be a cbssportsline article digging up an old interview from before the season for all we know.

Red Sox staff > Yankees staff"

Well then we're both in trouble cause

Blue Jays staff> Yanks or Sox Staff

P.S

Yanks pen> Sox Pen

You'd give up the power for the on base threat, i'm not saying i want it but it wouldn't be all that bad.

Yanks pen> Sox Pen

Sox pen is second to last in ERA in the entire ML.

Yankees pen 3.55 ERA > >> >>  Red Sox pen 4.77 ERA

It's not going to be easy to win without a decent bullpen, and the Sox need help in that department. Although they're SP is alot better than the Yankees at this point, it won't be enough to cut it with the second to worst bullpen in the majors.

I forgot to add that Jeff Karstens has been throwing well and may pitch in an extended spring training game Saturday. He was expected to get the long man role before he got injured on the final day of spring training. Hopefully he'll have the job when he gets back and we can use Ohlendorf in his proper position; as a 6th or 7th inning guy. The way farnsworth has been pitching of late (his suspension was reduced today from 3 games down to just 1 game), it may be a battle between him and Russ Ohlendorf for the 7th inning job.

Bottom line is, Yankees bullpen has achieved much better results than we could've dreamed of. Guys are settling down who were rocky, and we may get help from the minors if needed (maybe David Robertson??).

Don't wanna risk Ortiz getting worse

our best thing to do would be to DH Manny and start Ellsbury Drew and Crisp in the OF
