I can appreciate Olaf Kolzig's need to move on because he doesn't want to be a back-up, but I can't think of a team that would sign him to be their #1. I just don't know if there is a team out there that would be interested in naming a 38 year old free agent their starting netminder.

Ottawa is the only possible team I can think of if they have the cap room.

Hopefully the Caps and Kolzig can work it ourt so "Ollie the Goalie" eventually retires as a Cap. Anything less would be unfortunate.

Listened to him in a live talk on WTEM on the way home from work today.  He is not a happy guy with how the season played out and the way he was treated by the organization.  Basically he was told right before the trade deadline they were okay with the goalies.  Then Huet is acquired and he wasn't talked to about anything until after Game 7 and that was a phone call to talk about the future. By then he'd made up his mind.  Not happy at all with how it went down and felt they should have talked to him about the situation.

I can't blame him for that.

I agree that there may not be a team that would sign him as a #1 and he said in the talk flat out he is a #1 goalie and wouldn't want to be a back-up.

He also made it clear he isn't leaving on bad terms.  Very happy with his time in DC.

Not a fan of the Caps organization/management and this is just another example to me.  But the players are fine and Olie is a class guy.  Best of luck with whatever he chooses to do.

I have to agree.  I would love to see him come back with the Caps.  He could be a great mentor to Huet, if the Caps can resign him.  How many teams can say they have a 1 - 2 punch in goal that the Caps would have in Huet and Kolzig?  Not many if any.  Come on Olie, stay with the Caps and stick around for what is to come for the next few years.  These next few years are going to be special in Washington.  If Kolzig wears a uniform other than the red or white of the Capitals, that just wouldn't be right.

Colorado needs a goalie thats not going to choke every other day, and if they get rid of Theodore they will have plenty of cap space to sign a more consistent goalie.  I dont know much about Kolzig, but I know I dont like Jose Theodore or Peter Budaj as the Avalanche goaltenders.

I love Olie and I hope he just retires so we can hang his number where it belongs!  Let's resign Huet for another year to give us a solid starter with Johnson/Semen Varlamov as backup until Semen can take over the starting role fully!

I'm not sure how they're doing on cap space, but I think the Kings may be interested. I think they might have a decent prospect goalie waiting in the wings, but don't know if he's NHL ready. The Kings have had a goalie carousel the last few seasons and all of them have been sub-par. The Kings will have another high pick in this year's draft, and adding that to a pretty good core of young players, especially Kopitar, adding an experienced goalie for a few years might be a good idea.

What about the Wings? I don't see them resigning Hasek and Osgood has never proved himself as a consistent starter. Plus he would be playing behind a great defensive team. I also see him going to a contender so that he can win a cup before he retires so the Wings make perfect sense.
