It is exactly 1 min after our first 3 game losing streak of the season and I am boiling mad.

I am tired of having great starting and relief appearances by pitchers only to be thrown away by the worst closer in the game right now, Jason Isringhausen.  For crying out loud he gave them the game with two outs throughout the entire of the inning.

I am so mad.  Lets discuss other options for closers.... anyone????????

(Go Cards)

ughhhh.

I just started a similar thread, but I will coment on yours for a brief moment.  I don't know who is worse but I would have been more comfortable with seeing there closer tonight than seeing ours.

This guy is not right, lets put him on the DL. I was cringing when we brought him in. Anybody is better at this point give the ball to Kyle McClellan or Villone. Those are my choices. Bring up Perez. I know he is young but so is several other players on the team. I think Perez can handle it.

Your right about the fact that we have to do something.  Lets get Perez up here and pitching to major league hitters.  I don't think you can throw him right into the ninth inning, but we need to start looking at moving on.  Its over for Izzy.

Izzy was good last year because he didn't get a lot of work, this year there is a higher demand on him and I don't think he can handle the load.  If we don't fix it we will fall out of the race very soon.

He is definately not right.  I think we need to get Perez up here pitching to big league hitters.  I don't think you can throw him right into the ninth inning, but we need to look at moving on.  Its over for Izzy.

Please leave him in for another 3 days. He's the only pitcher in MLB our hitters can handle right now.

Joking aside, supporting a team with the 2008 version of Eric Gagne as our closer, I can certainly relate to your pain.

On the other hand......we needed that win real bad. Do it over tomorrow.

No offense

That may be how this series goes.  Whoever gets to the closer will be the likely loser.

Gentlemen-

Like I mentioned in the other thread, Izzy must go and now. Did any of you guys see Sir Albert go to Izzy and have a few choice words at Izzy? I think even Mr. Pujols is fed up with Mr. Unreliable. Izzy is the 2008 version of Jason Marquis - a head case that will never be solved. Since the Cards are in a youth movement then I say bring up Chris Perez. The young guy will fit right in. They could ease in him in the mix. Use Perez as a middle reliever, setup guy and even allow him to get a few saves. He will do just fine.

I just thought of something. Where would we be if the Cards would have re-signed Troy Percival? Man we sure could've used him if they would've only kept him.

Bottom line. The Cards can no longer afford to allow Izzy to literally flush good or dandy gems pitched by our starters right down the darn toilet. It's time to close out the Isringhausen era as our closer and begin a new era - the Chris Perez era.

GO CARDS!!!!     68

Everyone in the Cardinal nation is getting sick of what Isringhausen has been doing on the mound lately, even Izzy himself.

"I'm just getting sick of embarrassing myself and letting my team down," Isringhausen said. "We should be five more wins in the win column in my mind, so we should be ahead in first place even more. But they can't keep sending me out there when I'm pitching the way I'm pitching.

"We're going to have to figure out some kind of remedy. I'm sure that remedy will give me some time off and get somebody in there that can do a better job right now. ... I'm just pitching like a second grader."

I agree with you about putting Izzy on the DL, and giving him some time to find out where his stuff went. Chris Perez has been having a pretty good year down in Memphis with the Redbirds. Perez has more strike outs and a much lower ERA in about the same amount of innings as Izzy this year.  Or even trying Kyle McClellan, as someone else suggested. No matter who Duncan and Larussa decide to put in the closer spot it will be an upgrade over Izzy.

Izzy is just through mentally, he might still have some good pitches left in him but now that all of this has gotten into his head its over with for him. We have all seen what happens when a closer loses h
