As many of you may have seen from the offseason till today, i've spent a lot of time talking up this bullpen and backing them up when they faulter. Well, I think it's safe to say that i'm the one who is in position to puff up my chest and be proud of these guys. I took a lot of flack on the main boards about this bullpen but it might be time to bring these talks back up.
After last night's game against the Cardinals, the Brewers' bullpen have put together 12 straight scoreless innings and counting heading into Saturday's game. Also, despite the 4 runs allowed (2 by Gagne, 2 by Stetter) against the Astros in that extra-inning loss, the Brewers' bullpen has allowed just 5 total runs in 26 innings this month. That's good enough for a 1.73 ERA for the month of May.
We all know now that the Brewers may be in some deep trouble in terms of the rotation but if the offense can use last night's big win as a platform and start playing up to their potential and the bullpen can continue to be dominant, the starters and their poor outings can easily be overcome as long as the deficit isn't too far out of hand.

Citron,
I'll give you credit on that one. I've read a few of your posts regarding the bullpen. I've been mocked myself for my backing of the bullpen. Before the year started, I made the statement "there's a good chance our bullpen will finish with a lower ERA than our starting rotation". Of course, I wasn't factoring in Turnbow and Gagnes troubles, and I thought Mota would be a touch better than he has been, but all and all, these guys are making me look good. Now we just gotta keep it up.

You thought Guillermo Mota, with his 2007 ERA of 5.76, would be better than a 2.25 ERA? I admire your faith.

You spoke too soon with Eric Gagne coming in again tonight. That guy probably can't close his garage door.
What a toolshed.

its a sad sad day. I too was talking about the bullpen at the bar tonight. I told everyone that it was a 1.80 era in may. I guess I was wrong. Of course I was just guessing.

But it's not an argument at all. It's just an attempt to come on our board and antagonize our fans, largely resulting in you getting ignored.
