Matt Painter, who is from Indiana, likes to try to get the top recruits from the state, just as he has with most of his recruits since he's been at Purdue. It kind of holds the "hoosier" state's tradition together of the game of basketball. John Wooden, Glenn Robinson and Rick Mount all stayed in Indiana and chose Purdue. Three-fourth of the roster last season were players from the state. Question is, how important is it?

I think it's important not to see phenominal talent go outside of the state, and not to mention it is easier to keep phenominal talent in-state.

If we aren't talking great talent though, I dont agree with spending time trying to get the average in-stater on the team.

Lets face it here, we love basketball here.  Maybe we don't pack the high school gyms every single night but that is because there are so many things going on these days.  There is major talent in this state.  Look at Eric Gordon.  Look at Moore.  Look at Hummel.  Look at Zeller because he is going to be a star.  Remember, we are the state that goes out in -20 degree temperatures with 45 mile an hour winds and shoot hoops.  O.k. that might be a little bit of an exageration.  To win in-state talent also earns respect from around the state.  It used to be every wanted to go to Gloomington.  In the next couple of years, everybody will want to go to West Lafayette!!!

Now about Rick Mount, who still lives in his home town, he was originally planned on going to the Univerity of Miami and everyone in Indiana got him to stay, lol. Thankful he chose Purdue. Larry Bird picked ISU over IU. Who was the best player from Indiana that chose a college outside of the state? I'm going to have to say Oscar Robertson.
