I know a lot of you Seattle fans have a love affair with this guy, and he may be the future of this program, but he has done nothing this year.
Just watched him hit into a double play...which will probably drop his batting average to below .100, which is just pitiful. Hell, Frank Thomas could've bunted a .100 average, and you guys were all over his "aged" butt. Not saying I wanted an old veteran on the team, but McClaren doesn't seem to know how to utilize his young talent. Clement has ended innings, struck out with bases loaded, fouled out with people in scoring position...long story short, he doesn't have the knowledge or ability to play at this level yet. I was rooting for him. But realistically Wladimir Balentien has earned his spot on the roster (although he looks lost at times also---but so do the majority of the Mariners) with timely hits, good outfield play, and aggressive at bats. 1 out of 2 call ups isn't bad. We don't have time to develop a player at this level right now, we need to win. This is not a rebuilding year.
Send back Clement until he isn't overwhelmed at the plate. Get a reliable .280 type player with good power to play DH. I still want Griffey, but would settle for somebody in his late twenties as well. The Angels are too good to be dilly-dallying away the year.

you make good points except the fact that the team sucks and isnt going anywhere, the actually do have time to develop young talent at the major league level. which Seattle has only allowed a few of their players to ever do that, they always send their prospects back down before giving them a chance and give up on them, its good to see them try this and besides who are they going to get, Griffey isnt coming until he hits his 600 HR, you have to trade for anything and Seattle doesnt exactly have the best farm system and would you honestly rather have Willie, Cairo or Vidro as your DH? he's been up 2 weeks give him a chance, it took Yuni 3 years to finally hit in the big leagues and right now as crappy of a catcher as Clement is he is a much better option than Kenji is

I kind of agree, he can't hit yet in the majors. But unfortunately it looks like a rebuilding year. No point making any moves with Sexson suspended right now. Clement isn't going to get better at AAA, so unless we trade for someone i think we might as well let him learn how to play.
Go M's!!!

Why bother sending Clement back down to Tacoma? Didn't you see the numbers he was putting up down there? He has nothing left to learn there. You honestly can't believe that he's going to learn how to hit mjor league pitching in Tacoma. The BA is going to look bad for a while until he gets more ABs under his belt. If you see how hard the ball comes off of his bat, it will only be a matter of time until those balls start falling in rather than ending up as atom balls hit right to someone.
Go Mariners!!!

I totally agree with you, but I would just leave him on the bench to pinch hit instead of sending him back down. My main point is the position is DESIGNATE HITTER so the only job he has is to hit the ball. We don't need a DH that can't hit we lose every advantage of the position. Get someone in there that is going to get the job done. I disagree with some of you that it is too late this season to turn things around. This can be a good team and I had high hopes for them this season. Remember the Marlins being 15 games below .500 and winning the world series after turning things around. The Mariners could do the same, but will have to make changes whether it be coaching staff or players or preferably both.
Go Mariners in 2008

That is a ridiculous idea.....you don't send him down when he can hit in the majors. He tore up AAA so all that will do is be a waste of time. What they need to do is slot him in the order, play him every day and let him learn. That is how young players improve. He can't get in a groove when he plays 1 day, then has a day off, then plays 6 innings, then has a day off. All the while bouncing from 5, 6, 7, 8 in the order.
The problem is that McLaren is incapable of making a decision, leading the team, and sticking with it. Until he is gone you will see no one playing to their potential...that is the fact!

Most M's fans know what the Front Office won't admit to. This is a rebuilding year. Unfortunately it's the first year after the 1st rebuild didn't take. Clement will do fine. He does look lost but he will get it done. I remember he struggled at times in some of his minor league stints. People said then that he wasn't worth the pick, but he came through. He will do it again. Balentien has been a very good surprise for us. He has a good approach wit his at bats and doesn't get fooled near as much as Clement does. The main difference I see is Balentien has shown some ability to spray it around some and Clement is dead pull at this time. i don't want Clement to change his swing, but I just think he would make an easier transition if he wasn't dead pull. I do also think that as soon as he hits one out just look out. he may just need to get the first one out of the way.

Demoting Clement is not the answer. Changing the line-up around would be much better.
First of all Ichiro was much more successful with the power threat of Beltre behind him. So that's the first move and then put Ibanez 3rd, he fits well there. Move Balentein up to 4th, Clement 5th (left handed) and put Sexson 6th. Finally round it off with Johjima, Lopez, and finally Betancourt. This would make the line-up much more successful. You would have Lopez, Betancourt, and Ichiro batting back to back. It also seperates the easy outs.
