Every game is a must win in the playoffs, game 5 is no diffenrent. This will be a "momentum changing" game for one team. Hopefully it's the Spurs.

I think the Spurs have already won the series (knock on wood). I'm not trying to be cocky be any means however, the Spurs are looking stronger after these past 2 home  wins. They're a team that doesn't get "rattled" or "worried" about losing a couple of games. I think the oppisite can be said about the Hornets. I think they're very rattled and worried right now. I think the Spurs have figured them out and it's gonna take a lot for the Hornets to win game 5. Fellow Spurs and Hornets fans, what are your thoughts about game 5? What need to happen for both teams to win the game?

Here's my thoughts......

The Spurs definetly have the momentum, and they're the wrong team to give any kind of momentum to. Coach Pop said all along, "We want CP3 to be a scorer" well, finally, after two dissapointing results, coach Pop got his wish. I think the Spurs finally figured out how to make Paul a scorer and not a facilitator. Every time he had the ball, the Spurs gave 1-1 defense however, almost every time he passed the ball there was an immediate double team. That's how they made CP3 a scorer,  while taking everyone else outta the game.

I also think that the Spurs need a solid 3rd quarter. The first 2 game in N.O. the Spurs had the lead at half time and then blew it in the 3rd. Hopefully things can change.

The crowd will be a big factor as usual but, the Spurs will be ready. Everyone knows that the Hornets will have some type of "big run" in the 1st quarter. If the Spurs can weather the storm and stay close for the first 5 minutes of the game, they'll be fine.

If the Spurs win game 5.......IT'S OVER.......

This is what the playoffs are all about! Should be lots of fun!

i agree with all your thoughts.

for no to win game five, they have to get big contributions from west, stojakovic, and their other non-pauls.

for the Spurs to win game five, they need to defend stojakovic and west, keep duncan shooting (or hit 3/4 of their 3s), and out-hustle the Hornets.

if the spurs win game five, i think no goes down and out in game six.  if no wins game five, i could still see the spurs taking games six and seven.  not sure if they would, but the spurs are more resilient and they could come back in this series from being down 3-2.

so much of the game appears to be mental.  the spurs have the advantage right now over no like they did in the first round against the Suns.  i would like to see them close the deal.  go spurs go!

I think game 5 is far, far more critical for the Hornets than the Spurs, meaning as you state, if the Spurs can weather the early emotion filled intense charge the Hornets should begin the game with, the pressure will really mount for New Orleans if the game is close down the stretch.  San Antonio wins game 5, it's over.  New Orleans wins, SA may very well come back to Texas to take game 6 and force a 7th game where their wealth of experience would obviously be  a big factor.

As to the game, keep right on doing what we're doing.  Play CP straight up and double down and out on West and Stoyo.  Offensively, I think Pops move to insert Manu in the starting rotation and have him run the point while Tony takes a breather has been huge.  A fully healthy Tim D poses huge interior problems for NO.  Last night the double teams were coming too early, allowing constant open 3 point attempts.  Wait too late or try to play him man up, and see where Tyson Chandler landed.

Aside from potential foul difficulties forcing either team to lose significant minutes, a big factor will be either team's ability to hit outside jumpers.  Guys like Pargo or Bruce may be the difference makers.  Big key will also be bench play.  That's one area that really should favor the Hornets, but I'll still take an older Finlay over Julian Wright, etc.  I'm very surprised guys like Bonzi Wells have not been more of a factor for NO.  In very limited time last night, Robert Horry provided as much value for the Spurs as Wells did for New Orleans until pure garbage time in the 4th.

Finally

The Spurs get to flex their advantage of mental make-up/experience!

The Hornets are a phenomenally talented winning team, but they have yet to experience any playoff pressure.  They are probably a better team all things equal, but playoff pressure can be a great imbalance to equality.

The first 4 games of the series had the Spurs nearly buckling under enormous pressure while the Hornets got a relative easy free ride.

I am not saying there is no pressure on the Spurs.  There certainly is  a lot of pressure.  But, now finally the pressure goes both ways.

Drive for 5.

Game 5 doesn't concern me.  If we win it is a bonus.  If we lose, it isn't a big deal.  I feel very confident in game 6 and I actually think losing game 5 would have some advantages as a game 7 with the inexperienced Hornets could get them slightly less of a performance than a do or die situation.

Danger with winning game 5 is a game 6 loss is a big momentium builder for the Hornets if they got one in SA.  Game 7 would be much harder.

I think we can win in 6, but I wouldn't mind a nice 7 game series either.  Either way ... Spurs should win.

I don't think I have enjoyed watching Tony Parker more than I have this series.  It is becoming his team.

I'm going to state the obvious here, but we need to win at least 1 road game in order to win the series. I agree that if we win game 5, it's over for Nawlins.

My heart took all it could handle with Phoenix game 1. It can't handle a 7 game series with the Hornets.

Dark,

Game 5 concerns me a lot. Look at the title of the thread......"Must Win". It's the playoffs. Every single game is a must win!

Who wants to go seven games? I sure as hell don't, and I'm sure that Coach Pop and the Spurs don't want it to go seven games either.

If we win game 5, IT'S OVER.

I'm just having a hard time not looking ahead........All we need to do right now as fans is think about game 5 and game 5 only.

NO talk about differned situations if we win or lose game 5.....yada, yada, yada.....Let's win game 5 and go from there!

GO Spurs GO
