UNLV is experiencing one of the most exciting off-season periods in a long time. We are preparing to welcome 6 new Rebels to the team at the start of the '08 season, have already signed 2 recruits for '09, and still have 3 schollies available to add to that number. That means in 2 seasons, the Rebels will welcome 11 new players to the team. Considering the quality of the recruits to date, this group should be extremely productive, and obviously has us all waiting for the season to begin.

In 9 days the signing period will end, and by that time another surprise or two could be in store for us. In less than 5 weeks practice will begin for the Australia trip. By the time the Rebels return from Australia, it will be only 3 and a half months until the season starts. The excitement should really be back at the T&M this year. Just like in years past, a ticket to a Rebel game might be the toughest ticket in town in another few years.

I hope that Hamrick, UNLV and the Boosters get together and extend LK's contract along with a nice raise before the season ends so we don't have to go through the "where's Lon going to" guessing games. Kruger deserves a long term contract like Alford and Huggins. For recruiting purposes alone, he should be extended through the '15 season at least. Thats about where Alford is. Krugers proved he's worth it. Any coach is just a few injuries or defections away from a mediocre season. Kruger proved his value last season when he took a team with only 9 scholarship players to the big dance, and again won a game. All this is common knowledge, and its only common sense that we lock LK up for an extended period.

c-hoop,

I could not agree with you more. Spot on with every point, I would hope they would give Kruger whatever would make him happy. The great thing about Kruger, or should I say 1 of the many great things about LK is he has not used other jobs against UNLV. He is a class act that has brought back a long struggling program the right way. You don't see them talking about him on outside the lines or offering an 8th grader a scholarship, we are very lucky to have LK. I hope the administration is thinking along the same lines as you. Hell I would vote for LK for president at this point, great post c-hoop and GO REBELS!

Come to think of it Sooner, I'd vote for him for president over any of the available candidates. I trust him more!

It's safe to say that I'm going through some severe Rebel basketball withdrawals here. I always look forward to the upcoming season but the term "giddy with anticipation" comes to mind this offseason. If I could, I would take the time off work and follow the Rebels to Australia. Speaking of Australia, I wonder if The Mountain will have any coverage??

I've never bought my season tickets sooner than October, but this year I might have to get on it way earlier. I'm really hoping LK adds Derrick Kasper and Malcolm Thomas. The 2008-09 roster already has a great core of veteran players and an exciting set of new guys who provide size, athleticism and much needed depth. Jasper and Thomas would still be able to practice with the team this year and be ready to contribute in a big way in 2009-10 when we lose Joe, Wink and Rene.

Regarding LK and his future... Give the guy a lifetime contract!!

Andy Katz, ESPN, reports Gillispie flying to California to meet with Jasper to try to talk him into staying at Kentucky.
