Has anyone else heard the rumor that Detroit may go after Bonds to bring some left handed power to the lineup and reunite Leyland and Bonds from their Pirate Days?  I think it could be a good move as Bonds can easily reach base with walks and hits still.  It doesn't bring much speed to the lineup but we don't run alot anyway.  How do other Tiger fans feel about this?

I am intrigued by this option, but...

My Tigers are severely under-performing now with the league's second-highest payroll. If they fail to make the ALCS or even the playoffs, they will be an enormous disappointment. Now, figure they go after and get Barry Bonds. He is undoubtedly the highest-profile and most hated player of the last quarter-century (but Roger Clemens is gaining on him). If the Detroit Tigers fail to win after adding a guy like Bonds, they will be and SHOULD be the laughing stock of the league. I want desperately for the Tigers to win no matter the cost, but I can't see myself cheering for a guy I don't respect. I felt the same way about Todd Bertuzzi becoming a Red Wing. Love the potential, hate the results. I really hope this is a media-spawned bag of air. We don't want that guy under the Olde English D.

Netiher the Tigers, nor any other MLB team, have shown any interest in adding Barry Bonds.  No team has talked to him, given him a workout, or even talked about signing him.
If he goes to any team, it would probably be to go back to the Giants or maybe the Pirates.  He has a history with them and they could use him.  But he wouldnt come cheap.
Not cheap money-wise or the emotional strain he would take in the clubhouse and with fans.    I dont think there is any chance of Barry Bonds going with the Tigers.  They want to improve their defense and pitching.

This is a rumor created off of boards like this one. The Tigers have said straight out that they aren't interested.

If Bonds signs with a team, he has to sign cheap with a conditional cotract.  If Detroit could trade Sheffield and Inge for some quality pitching, signing Bonds would then help.  Those are some big If's.  The Giants had a winning average of around .550 with him in the line-up and around .420 with him not in the line-up.  Four managers have publicly said they would like Bonds on their team, while the owners shoot him down without making an offer.  No team has still made an offer.  I would like to see Bonds pull and Andre Dawson with the blank check.

B. You own stock in a Pharmaceutical company that supplies Bonds with 'roids?

C. You invented "Clear"

D. You own a sportsware store and have been stuck with tons of Barry Bonds jerseys

E. You stupidly put Barry on your fantasy team and can't get rid of him

F. You know zip about baseball but you have dozens of Barry Bonds rookie cards?

You sure aren't a Tigers fan - so what is the deal with your Barry Fixation?

I would have serious issues continuing to follow the Tigers if they acquired Bonds.  I'd rather the organization stay classy than sell their souls for some victories.  I've been die-hard Tigers since about 1999, and this would probably kill most of the enthusiasm I have for this team.  I don't think it's very likely, but I would be seriously disappointed if it happened.

The Tigers are struggling enough as it is.  Bringing in Bonds would only worsen the team chemistry that is already poor to start with.  It just seems that they can't get both sides going at the same time.  When the pitching is on they're not getting runs.  And when they're hitting, their pitching sucks.  I am surprisingly happy with Todd Jones thus far.  Especially after his horrid spring.  The only thing that is getting me through right now is remembering the fact that last year the Yankees had a losing record at the All-Star break and still made the play-offs.
