Greg Maddux became only the ninth pitcher in major league history to reach the plateau of 350 wins and the second pitcher of his generation to reach 350 wins. A decade ago, few thought another pitcher would ever reach the 300 plateau. That speculation rested on solid logic, which makes reaching the 350 win milestone all the more impressive.
The following shows the pitchers who won 300 games since 1957:
Roger Clemens now retired holds the MLB record with 354 wins
Greg Maddux has 350 still playing
Tom Glavine has 303 still playing
Steve Carlton retired has 327 wins
Don Sutton retired has 321 wins
Nolan Ryan retired has 318 wins
Tom Seaver retired has 310 wins
Gaylord Perry tetired has 305 wins
Phil Niekro retired has 302 wins
The odds were against Maddux. By staying in the rotation, pitching deep in games, and playing for winning teams, Maddux moved himself into the top 10 in all-time wins. He may end the season as number one all time if not second among post-World War II pitchers. Despite the changes in pitcher usage working against him, Maddux accomplished a truly amazing feat and we congrat him although Glavine is still in the game as well.
Will we ever see another 300 game winner and if so when and who do you think it will? be
