Since Carson Williams is not supposed to be an option quarterback then running the option may not be the best decision here.  You run what fits your team not what fits the other teams.  Softening the schedule is a good move as long as it doesn't go too far.  Keep some good teams on the schedule because you need to be stretched.  Just don't have so many good teams that your boys are carried off on stretchers.

Sorry.  In this case, you are incorrect.  Unlike the pro's, you build a successful program around a system, and then fill the system with the correct players.  That is what made Army a success in the late 80's- early 90's, as well as USNA and ASAFA over the last 20 years.

As a USMA grad and football player, the fact is, in general, we are a tad slower and a lot smaller than our competition.  The option/ veer/ spread offense is a perfect solution to this.  You will also find that as the offense improves, the defense will also.  Army's beleagured defense over the last 5-10 years is a direct result of an ineffective offense.

While I feel "bad" for Carson's chances of playing effectively this next season (if at all), in true Army fashion, he probably realizes that TEAM is more important.

One man's opinion....GO ARMY!!!

Greetings,

First time on your boards, although I pass through here alot. Must have something to do with many, many years in the Army.

Black Knight,

You are so right about TEAM and teamwork. You need to buy into that  for a team to have success. But I do believe that a system can be adjusted to suit an ability. They just need to keep it within the basic system. You're also right about a defense gets better as the offense improves. Afterall, they have to practice against it.

The option offense runs the clock and keeps the defense off the field.  The numerous 3 and outs over the past years from the passing offense continously tired out the defense.  The problem that Army faces now is that they have to recruit that style of player again.  Black Knight 1 is right.  You fit the players to the system.  The new offense will have to be slowly put in and adapted by its current players.  They need a few years to bring in the new players in order to be effective with the option attack.

I would like to see the wishbone eventually put back in.

Its nice to see some activity on this board.  I agree wholeheartedly that the defense will get a lot better when the offense makes an 80 yard 5 minute drive.  I also understand that you have to have a system you can believe in.  My debate comes from choosing a system that you don't have the players for.  I don't really know the personnel to say for sure that this system isn't for them.  I just think changing systems will not assure 8 wins.  If the players don't match the system it spells struggle.  If they recruited an option QB then fine.  Otherwise 6 losses to close the season may not seem all that bad.

Greetings gentlemen

It should be interesting to see what Coach Brock can do in his second season. It usually takes two years to get a handle on a team. Once a new game plan is installed you're better off with players that come in under that system. Kind of like not having to "break old habits". The success of this new offense is going to based on how quickly the returners can adapt. Of most important (IMO) will be the O Line. The blocking schemes are going to be a lot different.

I also noticed in spring ball that the QB that looked good was Jenkins.

Maybe this will be the candidate to start in the "new" offense.

Guess we'll know more come August.

I totally agree here-you need to play together as a team. If you can't establish that then nothing will work. The recruits will appear in time and that style offense will take off.  I think it is a very smart choice to slow the game daown. I have season tickets to Army games, and let me tell you if i had a nickel for every 3 and out i sawthe past 3 seasons, I could retire young!!!!!  I will be up at West Point Friday night for the game against Temple.  Should be a great game hopefully, so we will see first hand how this offense turns out

GO ARMY.....BEAT NAVY.........
