Alright, next topic, our D-line. There have been alot of opinions on our D-line situation. I'll put up a poll but also I'll pose some questions to gauge your views.

1. Do we have the manpower to provide an effective pass rush?

2. And do we need to improve the run stop as well?

3. Who should start on the D-line and who should be the backups?

4. How should we address the D-line next year? Which positions do we address and how (FA or Draft) should we address them?

I think our D can do better than last year if we can stay healthy and our young guys like Wilson and Alex Buzbee can take their game to the next level. We have an average pash rush from the front 4 but are good at stopping. I was hoping to get another speedy pash rusher to ensure we can bring the rush often without wearing down our rush by the 4Q. Andre Carter got 10 sacks in 07 but he often gets double teamed and Chris Wilson got 4 in like the last 2 games. He can become a fixture on RE especially on 3rd down though he might struggle against heavier o-linemen in the run plays. I think Phillip Daniels should play the run and Wilson the pass. I am not keen on Wilson adding too much weight to combat the run as he might lose his speed which is his forte in our D. We have got to be more versatile and effective from the front 4 especially the DTs. I think Wilson & Carter can get around the tackles but without the pressure from inside, the QB can still get 2-3 seconds to make their passes before the outside rush can get to them.

Kedric Golston and Anthony Montgomery are effective against the run and throw in Marcus Washington, London Fletcher and LaRon Landry, we can force teams to become one dimensional. These guys have had a full year under their belt together and hopefully will become even more potent in stopping the run. However, RB's like Brian Westbrook, Brandon Jacobs and Earnest Graham managed to put more than 100 yds running when we dropped everyone back on deep coverage while defending leads. Hopefully, this is one area we can minimise this year.

Our starting D-Line IMO should be RE - Daniels on the 1st and 2nd down while Wilson comes in on 3rd (and long situations) to rush the pass. RDT - Cornelius Griffin/Kedric Golston LDT - Anthony Montgomery (sometimes Daniels on 3rd downs) LE - Andre Carter. However, if we struggle on offense, we might tire our D quickly and give up big plays late in the game.

We should probably get a DT from FA, not a pricey one but a solid player who has some pass rush ability. Tommie Harris and Albert Haynesworth are FA in 09 (they might be pricey anyway) but hopefully some less expensive DTs with a big upside like Kevin Williams might be an option though he is not an FA next year. We should definitely get a pass rushing DE in next year's draft to complement Wilson and Carter. If Wilson is good, then we should get a DE in the 2nd round, if Wilson doesn't get sacks, then probably try for a top 5 rusher in the draft.

Yeah, I think our d-line isn't anything that is in dire need of repair. Following next year will be an entirely different story, but I think the supporting crew around the d-line will help them to be good, but not great. Phillip Daniels is old, but Andre Carter is solid and Golston and Montgomery have the inside locked down on running situations. Cornelius Griffin still has some in the tank, and even Daniels has said that he would be willing to move to the inside. I think it would be perfect to have him in there in pass situations because he could possibly have the power to rush from the inside. I still feel like discussing the d-line is just beating a dead horse, but either way, I think we should be fine next season. I'm more concerned with the depth at corner because most of our corners have injury problems. Fred Smoot and Shawn Springs should be fine when they are in, but behind them, Carlos Rogers still has a way to go before he is healthy and tryon is just a rookie who might be good in the future. Torrence and the other youngsters are wildcards as well. But I still see us having a strong, but not elite, defense.

If anything, I think the line will be better.  The only soft spot maybe Cornelius Griffin, but I hope and think he can still be a force on the interior line.  But with the emergence of Chris Wilson and the possibility of moving Phillip Daniels to tackle on passing situtations makes me believe that they will be able to provide more of a pass rush.  And of course Kedric Gholston and Anthony Montgomery have another year under their belt.  Andre Carter should no doubt provide more pressure fitting back into the role of a true defensive end.

i think we are about the same.i liked what i saw out of wilson at the end of last season.withwhat we had last year we finished in the top 10.iwas suprised they didn't address this in free agency or the draft.i guess there wasn't any one worth it during this period.how ever i think the skins will be in the top 10 .look for them next year takeing a lot of players for the d.ialso think wilson willend up being the starter over daniels early in the year.

both sides of the line will hopefully hold up nicely this year, but they'll need a serious makeover over the next few seasons...
