Let me first say this, I'm from Huntington and have seen Pennington two dozen times or more. He has a weak arm, even in college.....he wouldnt even be in the NFL had he not had Randy Moss as a target early in his career. The guy is brilliant.......however, if your not asking him to throw a 10 yard pass....your in trouble. Chances are he cant complete anything past 15 with any reasonable accuracy in a game. Hence all the INT's. He'll make a great offensive co-ordinator or QB coach one day, unfortunately for the Jet's it should be sooner rather than later. He doesnt have "it"......whatever "it" may be. A first round loss in the playoff's is about the extent of Penningtons talent.
If Chad Pennington had an arm, he would be an elite quarterback in the NFL. With that being said, he doesn't have an arm, and is absolutely no deep threat. He can make every pass within 20 yards, but the defense doesn't have to cover more than 40 yards. Pennington doesn't have the arm strength to throw it that far. So the defense tightens and makes it even harder to run and pass. I think Kellen Clemens just needs a little mroe experience. I mean 8 games on a 4-12 team isn't the best kind of experience. With a better O-Line with Faneca and more understanding of the playbook, I think Kellen Clemens is poised to have a breakout year. Besides a few losses under Pennington and they will pull the plug anyway.
I will tell you right now.. from a Jets fan with alot of knowledge of the Jets and watching them for the past 10 years regiously including alot last year.. the Qb going into 2008 will be Kellen Clemens... the Jets need to see wat this kid can do with a good O line and upgraded WR corps.... I promise you right now it will be Kellens Week 1 vs the Phins
Pennington will start the opener, when the Jets get to 1-2 or 1-3, Clemens wil be givin his shot....For all the talk of win NOW, I don't see it happening....I think Pennington is the better option for now but WE'RE NOT GOING TO THE SUPER BOWL THIS YEAR so who really cares???? They SHOULD give Clemens the job and see how he does with this upgraded offense.
Who cares if the guy can't throw the ball 60 yards ! What's the toughest pass to defend in the NFL ? The pass under 15 yards...those short slants, which Pennington throws so well.
Chad, new O-Line, A running game and some decent receivers will put points on the board. The defense is the key to this season, if we can stop anyone, we should get 10 wins easily.
Pennington starts, gets hurt in week 4, Clemens comes in and leads the Jets to a wild card. Somewhat reminiscent of Chad relacing Vinnie several years back
Not a reflection of who I feel should start, but rather who I think will get the job. I voted Kellen for 2 reasons: 1. Management is married to him for atleast one more year and 2. His arm adds an extra dimension to our passing game. A supposedly improved running game and defense will shorten his learning curve and he willh ave to be a game manager more than a game breaker.
Having said that, I feel that Chad's experience and head gives us the best opportunity to win, provided they use keller, smith, and leon properly
