With the hungry young DE's along with the other talented DL we have we should trade Derrick Burgess for a second or third rdr next yr. We have players just as good as him without the headaches or his yearly absence from OTA's. We need vets that will set a positive example for the future of our franchise so let's get a good pick for Burgess and send him that way. Are you with me Nation?

What?!??!  lol   nah...  He only had 8 sacks last season, but that total should rise this year..   He should get back to double digit sacks, like his 3 previous seasons before last...

 We'll resign him..

Even if we lose him (without compensation) next year, we've already gotten ten times the player for our money.  That's what New England does so well.

It is his contract year isnt it? i say let him go out and try to make a paycheck out of it, maybe 16 sacks like before? Then just let him walk away because hes nothing more than a situational pass rusher IMO.

He has two year remaining on his contract.  I say wait and see.  If he can get back to his form this year, then we try to resign him.  If not, then he could be bait at next years draft.

Skip that noise... he's been one of our more productive players the last couple of years. Hell no on trading him. I say we let him playout his contract, since this is his contract year. See if we can't land Julius Peppers next off-season since he's a free agent, if not then oh well. We can think about bringing Burgess back if he's good enough this season.

I dont think the guy that posted this is a true raider fan. YOU HAVE TO BE AN IDIOT to say we should trade him for a 3rd or 4th round pick. YOU'RE ON CRACK HOMEBOY!!

burgess is our best D-lineman! you have to be crazy!!!!

let me play it out and see where it goes from there! DO YOU NOT REMEMBER WHAT HE DID 2 YEARS BACK WHEN HE MADE THE PRO-BOWL?

All D-Burg needs a good DE on the other side of the D-line. He productivity went down because he is beening doubled. It is simple as that, all he needs is another great DL that will be doubled as well. That is another reason why we should have chosen Glenn Dorsey over Darren McFadden. Man that was a dumb decision.

Ok..

But if you do that, what replaces his pass prowess?  He's that only defensive lineman that you have to account for on every play.

Are you nuts? We are finally putting together a solid team and you want to trade the guy who has been the most productive part of it the past few years? I guarantee you that Al isnt even thinking about getting rid of Burgess for at least the next couple of years. If he does well for the next couple of years, lets see what hes worth, and if the demands are too much, then trade him, but only for a 1st round pick and some other compensation.

What? A pass rusher that has had one good season of 16 sacks and has done nothing but decline in production is now our best DLineman?

And you have the nerve to question someones fanhood with trash like that? Get a grip, HOMEBOY, Id keep Tommy Kelly and William Joseph over Derrick Burgess right now. And IMO, Kalimba Edwards is about to awaken the beast. Jay Richardson should pan out as well.

You have to be an a$$hole to roll up and hammer someone like that.

DO YOU NOT REMEMBER WHAT HE DID 2 YEARS BACK WHEN HE MADE THE PRO-BOWL?

I do, and Id like to say, big fuggin' deal. That was then...he did nothing before and very little after, and Im the one saying keep him, so dont give me any sht over trading him or not. But to come off like that...pssh, good luck with that.

Like who?

Kalimba EdwardsGreg Spires?  Don't even try to tell me improving Jay Richardson or one of the unproven rookies.

Edwards has 26 sacks in a six year career.  Burgess bettered that his first two seasons with the Raiders.  Spires has 39.5 in 10 years, Burgess has 35 the past 3.

Burgess in last years returning from surgery and getting dinged up season had as many or more sacks than any of those other guys in their best season.  He has been on of the only playmakers on defense, and he's not killing the cap.  No way do they trade him!

I'm not hating the other defensive ends, but if you got a good thing and it's not costing you a relative fortune why TF would you get rid of it?

Ive thought for the past two years that the Raiders would try and deal Burgess and I am actually shocked that they havent. When they signed him it was low risk high reward. They gave him more money than the market would rating him to get so he jumped on it. But he wants Peppers and Freeney money now if Im not mistaken but he isnt Peppers and Freeney quality sorry hes not.

To apply some baseball terminology the Raiders should play money ball with him. Trade him for draft choices and free up the little bit of cap that he would be taking up and here is why. Last year he wanted an extension and threatened to hold out to his credit he didnt but Im sure he still wants a new deal done and it still hasnt even been mentioned to anyones knowledge. Davis simply doesnt give players more money who are currently under contract. The injury bug that was with him in Philly his whole career reared its ugly head last year. This is the start of something bad, he would get phantom injuries out there and not be able to go. I dont want that to start being a problem here with the talent level starting to even out. Pass rushers are a lot like running backs strike while the irons hot. MOST pass rushing specialist are out of gas by the time they hit 30 which Burgess is either at or approching. There are rare exceptions like Strahan but all you have to do is look at Simeon Rice. He was an elite pass rusher but where has he been the last 3 or 4 years?

I also think moving him for draft choices or what have you would force RR to blitz more often which is something the Raiders have to start doing. Not having that pass rushing threat on the end would force him to get more creative and not so vanilla.

Will they move him? Probably not but they should at least entertain the idea. Suppose he does holdout, now what he has zero value for us in terms of trade bait because people remember the way we handled the Moss situation.
