Inspired by the other thread about this issue, let's try to have one. Let's talk about anything baseball related and take off the kiddie gloves for at least a few hours or 1 day. Heck, I wonder if we all can actually pull it off for an extended period of time.

Well, let's see.

I'm taking my kiddie gloves off.

So how come no fans in Florida?

Is it because they sold the team off after a WS...twice?

Or is baseball just not really that popular in Miami?

I'll bite, PH. I brought this up before, and it genuinely perplexes me.

Manny Acta. Was he the driving force behind the incredible 06 Mets season. Given their past performance, and the seeming unity of hotheads and players with an unsavory, selfish reputation, especially on a team going nowhere, I think he's the best clubhouse manager in the game.

I think it's a combination of alot of things. The World Series thing is a big factor, but there are many others. Here are some in no particular order:

1-Alot of families have their kids playing sports during the week, on Saturdays, and in some cases, Sundays.

2-One never knows if it's going to rain or not.

3-Alot of other activities (clubs, beach, etc.).

4-Alot of Miami residents are blue collar and can't afford to be at so many games and have to pick and choose. Usually they wait until the end of a season if the team is winning.

5-Ownership has taken a crap on the fanbase.

6-People down here are from everywhere.

7-The Dolphins are the #1 team in town because of extended history. Heat are #2.

8-Soccer has taken alot of the younger generation from baseball.

There are many more reasons. These were off the top of my head.

This is an excelent point.

Ever since the World Cup in 1994 and Bill Clintons introduction of the term "Soccer Moms", Baseball has taken a beating, and we still suck at soccer.

What about the new stadium, is it a dome? or retractable roof?

I also read or heard somewhere that if the new stadium is in Miami, than they want the team to be called the Miami Marlins.

Which makes a lot of sense.

I honestly am not sure. Manny's looking good in Washington and Willie is looking really bad as far as leading a team. One thing for sure, IMO, based on Willie not defending his player and allowing Jerry Manuel to show more fire and get tossed, I think Willie's competence is non-existent. Willie may be more suited as a coach -- not a manager. Just my opinion.

Thanks. You should see how rampant soccer is in South Florida with so many kids coming from South American and Caribbean families that only know that sport. There are just as many soccer tournaments as there are baseball tournaments in South Florida.

It's going to be retractable. We'll see if it changes anything. The prices of tickets still need to be more econimically friendly for the regular working class Joes (or in Miami, Joses).

The Florida Marlins will offiially become the Miami Marlins in 2011 when they move into the new stadium.
