"Coach Lowery, Nick, Lance and I were on the phone together after they learned I was looking for a new school," Freeman said. "They made me feel like I was in eighth grade all over again - they made me feel special. They made me feel wanted."
Good riddance Freeman. I've never seen a player cry about his feelings more than Freeman. Is this college or Jr High (sorry, I mean 8th grade).
This is a young team, so I don't blame Lickliter for naming Tate & Cole co-captians. Tate was a great player last year and Cole is going to be one of the best Forwards in the Big Ten before he leaves Iowa. I won't miss Freeman chucking up the ball every time down the court.
Let's be honest, Freeman wasn't going to win us any Big Ten championships. He was a liability most games offensively as he chucked up shot after shot. It's sounding like sour grapes, but I'm honestly glad to see another scholarship free up so that Lick can get his own guys in here.
You have to remember, however, that these are essentially kids. I may have very well responded the same way at age 19/20. These aren't mature adults making decisions, they are impressionable kids who most likely will gravitate to whoever acts interested.
I don't think Tony was a bad kid. And in light of our other departures in football, wish him well.
Man, I could make fun of you all day "thetodd". Your name, picture and quote says it all.
But really I am here to talk about Tony Freeman. The guy always showed heart even though he always made bad decisions. Seriously, when this guy tried harder, he looked worse. I can only wish him the best of a going-nowhere career at S Illinois and I hope we see him in the dance next year, that would be f-in sweet. I look forward to watching someone that can actually dribble-drive with confidence and grace. I look forward to watching a guy who can put up more than five shots a game and still lead the team in assists. And finally, I am looking forward to seeing the Lickliter Show getting a stranglehold on the Big Ten and reviving the Hawks once again. Go get em Hawks!
Being in Kansas, I don't get the opportunity to follow my Hawkeyes very well. So, with Tony Freeman gone, what Steve Alford holdovers do we still have? I have no qualms about him leaving, and to be honest I don't wish him luck. If he's not man enough to stay, then I don't care about him anymore. I hope he never makes it to a post-season tournament. It would serve him right. I don't mean to sound disgruntled, or anything, but I just have no sympathy for someone who acts that way.
I'm fine with Freeman leaving, honestly if a guy that makes 3rd team all Big Ten his Junior year can't even stick around for his senior year hes not worth it. Yea he is a starter and played well last year, but its a new era in Iowa City and I'd rather have one of the top players on the team leave and not play then stick around and not care. And as far as the quotes by Freeman go, I just have to shake my head. There isn't anything else I have to say about Freeman, goodbye and good luck, but LETS GO HAWKS!!!
