Which pitcher is better?

Pitcher A: Finished with 18 wins, 18 QS, 177 K's, 101 BB, ERA 3.95, WHIP 1.33

Pitcher B: Finished with 16 wins, 20 QS, 218 k'S, 54 BB, ERA 3.73 WHIP 1.14

According to Robray15, wins is the most important statistic and none of the stats listed above....

	as much as I hate to agree with that no good piece of crap robray. I have to say that yes wins are the most important statistic. Lots of statistics get inflated when a pitcher is pitching with a decent lead. They are more apt to throw balls over the middle and challenge hitters, than they are when the game is close.

	I voted for A but I would not label one as better than the other without looking at their stats over a longer period. If these were the average over at least a 3 year stretch, I might go with B instead. The fact that a pitcher gets a higher number of quality starts but they are not translated into wins for him means he either has a poor bullpen backing him up or no run support from his team. These are factors beyond their control.

Pfish argrees with the Cub fans, that should tell you something. How does a pitcher who has more quality starts, more strikeouts, less walks, lower WHIP, lower ERA but isn't as good as a pitcher with two more wins?

	Quality starts and ERA are the most important stats for a pitcher. The pitcher can't force his offense to do well. I'm shocked that some people think that wins are more important. They're more important for the team's success, but not as much as saying they are a better pitcher.

These are factors beyond their control. OK, if a bullpen blows the lead or the pitcher gets no run support, how is he less of a pitcher than the guy with two more wins?

	Well yeah, there's no valid argument for the other side whatsoever. A pitcher can only get a win if his offense produces. He just control's the opponent's offense and his job is to not let them score. Even if the score is 1-0. The offense is what won the game. Quality starts are most important for someone saying whether a pitcher is better.
