What's so special about the Winter Classic if there's one every year?

Well, the fact that there is only one per year. What's so special about New Years, then? Or Christmas? Or the Superbowl? They're every year, too. Still, people go nuts for them. One a year will be fine. You need to start new traditions here and there.

Besides, you can't call it the Winter Classic if you don't plan of making it an annual affair. Otherwise, it those few games that happened would just be referred to as 'those couple of games played outside'.

Soldier Field, that would be very cool, but I am disappointed about the Pens and Flyers not playing at Beaver Stadium, watching a hockey game in January  would be so different (and very cool) than watching a football game there on Saturday afternnons in the fall!!!

another thing I want to add, isn't it funny that the NFL is "afraid" to take the Super Bowl to thses football stadiums, but the NHL has a proven winner in playing hockey in those very same stadiums!!!

Well, I agree that the Superbowl would be more entertaining at a venue like Lambeau or Soldier Field. However, hockey does it because they need to do it if they want to have an outdoor game. Good luck making that work in Anaheim.

For the Superbowl, the NFL feels they have to put it in a place that people want to vacation. It's big bucks not just for the game, but for the whole city. People are more likely to visit New Orleans for a party in February than say, Buffalo. Lots of money to be made.

Yep, thats the problem with the Super Bowl. It's all about making as much money as possible, instead of rewarding the real fans. Every year during the Super Bowl they show the celebrities in the stands, as if anyone actually gives a rats a$$ about them and as if the celebrities give a rats a$$ about the game. Thats why Conference Championship games are the best, the real fans get to watch it.

But I guess I understand why they want it in places like Florida, I mean its not like the NFL makes a lot of money.

I doubt you'll see the Sabres or Pens in another one for some time due to the fact that a lot of other owners would drool over the attention that their team would get from it and I'm sure many of them have pressed Gary to pick them for the next one.  Detroit/Chicago works, but imo Montreal should play either Toronto or Ottawa.  We had two US teams for the first one, now get two Candaian teams for the second.
