As all of you regular posters know I am a huge Cubs fan and love to participate in all the discussions. However, I am not from Chicago and have never lived there, so my experiences at Wrigley are extremely limited (two games, two years ago). My wife and I are going back to Chicago in July to celebrate the anniversary of our engagements (we got engaged at Charlie Trotter's two years ago to the date of our trip). We are going to hit a couple of Cubs games and one of them we are out in the bleachers, which will obviously be our first time out there. I am sure many of you have spent many a sun-soaked afternoon in the Wrigley bleachers. We are in left field. From those who have been, what's the best way to enjoy an afternoon in the bleachers (i.e. how early before the game is it best to arrive - I noticed the bleachers were full long before the rest of the stadium - where to sit as I assume the whole thing is general admission, sit where you want, where to get food and beers, etc.)? Any tips to offer? I want to have a great time with my wife and she and I are both laid back, down for whatever, so any feedback would be great.

Hawk, i believe the gates for the bleachers open up about 2 hours before game time, the problem with that is that people are already lined-up about 2 hours before that. That of course is if you wanna try and get one of the 1st rows in the bleachers.
"We are in left field"
hawk, from what i understand, you can sit anywhere in the bleachers that you can find room at, other than the Premium seats in RF.
You say you and your wife are coming sometime in July, hopefully the Taste of Chicago is still around so that you guys can go back a little heavier. Enjoy your time.
Oh yeah, dont say anything negative to Soriano if you sit in LF, you might get the boot.

Thanks pothead. I did not know you could sit in right or left....I think we will probably try to get to left field anyway. I think when I bought the seats online I just selected the left field section when I purchased. I never say anything negative about the Cubs players, so no worries there.

Hey Hawk, I've been to 3 games this year in the bleachers. 2 games started at 1:20 and I got there at 9:30 for both and was in the first row for both. Gates opened at 11:20. I will say this, if I would have been about 20 minutes later dont think i would have made 1st row. One game started at 6:05 got there at 3:30 and got 1st row. Most important to me was sitting on the aisle. Easy to get up and get your food and drinks. Before you get in the park you can line-up either down the left field wall or right field wall, but all people enter dead center. Once you get in you can go either left or right up the ramp to get to the seating area. Grab your seats first before you stop to get a drink or use the washrooms as it does fill up fast. Unless you get a breezy day, it can get really hot out there as you are in the sunshine all day. If its a night game, no problem with the sun. lol Food and beverages are available at the top of the bleachers. Dont know if your a smoker or not but there is no smoking anywhere once you get in.(bathroom stalls) Drinks and food are expensive so rob a few banks before going. If they lose the game, kick yourself in the a$$ really hard cause the Cubs dont lose at home, and its probably your fault.

If you want to be in the first couple rows, you do need to get there pretty early. However, you can still find a good spot even if you get there about an hour or so before game time. Especially for only 2 people. Even if it does look pretty crowded, theres always spots you can squeeze in. You just have to go down and ask people. Also, heres a tip-- if you ask somebody working there, like an usher, they usually will help you find a spot if you ask them nicely:) Theyre pretty nice about it.

Thanks you guys are a big help. We don't smoke so no worries there, and I am prepared with a lot of sun block. I'll need a lot of Old Style, so I'll try to get near the aisle. We are going to a pair of 1:20 starts, but only one is in the bleachers, against the Reds. I am assuming this is going to be a full house venue so I imagine we'll try to get there by 9:30 or 10 and see what comes of it. Anyone have an opinion of which side is better, left or right field?
