This article was posted on ESPN. Oh you have to have insider access to read the whole thing. But this is so true. Dre Bly and Champ Bailey have got to do better Pass Rush or No Pass Rush.
The worst
Champ Bailey/Dre' Bly: The buzz going into the 2007 season was that Bailey and Bly might be the best starting battery around, but it didn't turn out anywhere near that way. A lot of this poor performance was on Bly's shoulders, as evidenced by his 8.8 YPA, but Bailey has to take some of blame as well. His 7.8 YPA was his worst since 2005. Both will have to improve if Denver's defense is going to see a turnaround in 2008.
But this is so true. Dre Bly and Champ Bailey have got to do better Pass Rush or No Pass Rush. That's a moronic statement. If a team can't stop the run its only a matter of time before the secondary gets exposed for trying to creep up and support.
Our whole D was pretty bad last year. In that article does it say how many times he was thrown at and how many times the ball was caught on him ? Just curious. BTW I agree with E-Love...
I agree, that's a really stupid thing to say. You could have Deion Sanders and "Night Train " Lane in their primes, but if your defensive line doesn't get pressure on the QB then WR's are eventually going to get open. It's impossible to cover somebody for an extended period of time.
If our D-Line steps up this year and gets to the QB, then everybody will be talking about how great our Corners are.
Let's not forget how light's out the secondary was early until word got out that Bailey and Bly had to play run support also. When the Broncos secret was out it was a matter of time before things went down the tubes.
Some writers use numbers as appealing to show statistics. Make 'em look "evident". Some writers need to see how things are played on the field.
I'd like to point out... remember, last season...Broncos played against Green Bay on Monday night. Brett Favre threw touchdown pass in overtime that burned Dre' Bly. Not his fault...but WHERE was pass rush? That asked for Favre getting some comfort against Broncos depleted defense line.
Same goes for some fans blaming on Champ Bailey for some poor performances. Well, how can you tell me that he also went to Pro Bowl, eh?
that is ALL the D-line's fault... and for an "expert" he knows nothing... how can a CB have great stats when the Dline lets my grandma score?! please... next year.. next year... thats all i gotta say
Even though they played poorly last season, it wasn't JUST the D-Line that was the problem last year. First off, the defensive scheme was new and unfitting for our group of players. Also, I know some disagree but I watched every game last year and DJ Williams was caught out of position and smothered by blocks quite often. I love the guy but he is not a MLB. I know he had great numbers but what the numbers don't show is WHERE he made all those tackles. He rarely made tackles on or near the line of scrimmage and was not a great run stuffer by any stretch of the imagination. I would assume a return to DJs natural position and the addition of Robertson will help us up front but we still have to see how that
